Frederick McLaughlin Obituary

McLaughlin, Frederick COLONIE Frederick Paul McLaughlin of Sand Creek Rd., died on Monday, August 22, 2011. Mr. McLaughlin was born in Poultney, Vt., on December 20, 1923. He was the son of the late Fred McLaughlin and Nellie Bowen McLaughlin. Mr. McLaughlin graduated from Poultney High School in 1941 and entered the U.S. Maritime in January 1943 where he remained until May 1943. In July 1943, he entered the Army. He did three months of basic training at Ft. Custer, Mich., and then was stationed at Camp Stoneman, Pittsburg, Calif. Mr. McLaughlin spent 24 months as a military policeman at Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii and was discharged from Ft. Devens, Mass., in 1946 as a corporal. He worked at Acme Products from 1946 until 1948 when he moved to Albany. He was employed with Albany Felt Company from 1948 until 1951, when he went to work for General Electric in Schenectady and then for the Watervliet Arsenal until his retirement in 1974. After his retirement, he worked at numerous locations including Loomis Courier Service of Colonie, PorTek of Troy, NL Industries of Colonie, and the New York State Dept. of Tax and Finance. Mr. McLaughlin is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Reta Cooper McLaughlin of Colonie; and his two daughters, Joan McLaughlin (Al Buggenhagen) of Loudonville and Nancy (Tim) Jeavons of Colonie. He has four grandchildren, Courtney (Harry) Degli-Angeli of Watervliet, John (Missy) McCarthy of Sharon Springs, Erin McCarthy (Larry Hovish) of Schenectady, and Elizabeth Jeavons (Mike Martin) of Colonie. He has two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Caleb McCarthy; one sister Shirley McLaughlin Maslack of Vt., also survives. Mr. McLaughlin was predeceased by his three brothers, Harold, Charles, and Robert McLaughlin and two sisters, Martha McLaughlin and Dorothy Roberts. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. Interment with military honors will follow in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday 4-7 p.m. Those who wish, may make contributions to the Northeast Regional Food Bank in care of the funeral home office.
