WATERVLIET - Gail Patricia (Shepard) Carlson, of Watervliet, N.Y., passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, in Indianapolis, Ind., at the age of 80.
She was the beloved wife of 47 years of William E. Carlson; and the loving mother of Suzanne (Richard) Mandel, of Fishers, Ind. Daughter of the late George and Lillian Carlisle Shepard of Poestenkill; and loving sister of Jacqueline (Joseph) LaBounty of Clifton Park, the late Marilyn Tapler, of Fla., and the late William Shepard, of Poestenkill. She is also the adoring grandmother of Carli (Cedrych), Zachary, and Grace Mandel.
In addition to her daughter and sister, she is survived by her nieces, MaryJune (David) Mahoney and Robin (Paul) Rifenburg; as well as her nephews, Bill (Lynn) LaBounty and Lance (Pam) LaBounty. Gail is also a loving aunt to their children and grandchildren.
Gail grew up in Poestenkill, was a graduate of Averill Park High School and attended the American Institute of Banking. She was employed for 47 years at the merged Manufacturers National, Marine Midland, and HSBC Bank in the computer room, as a customer service representative, and later as a supervisor in the Menands Office, eventually retiring from the Broadway office.
Gail was a past officer and member of the Sacred Heart of Mary and Watervliet Catholic Home School Associations, as well as the Watervliet High School PTA and Dads' Club.
She was an avid supporter of her church, serving as an officer in the Rosary Society, and a member of the choir. She enjoyed volunteering at the food pantry, serving with Equinox, chairing the "Giving Tree" and working church bazaars.
Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, Thursday, October 23, 4 to 7 p.m. The Funeral Fervice will be Friday, October 24, at 10 a.m., at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Poestenkill, 772 NY Route 351, Poestenkill, with Pastor Kate Drefke officiating. Interment will follow in the Eagle Mills Cemetery, Brunswick.
