Gary Lewis Obituary

Lewis, Gary H. WHITE PLAINS Gary Harold Lewis, age 73, a longtime resident of Pittstown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the Epic Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a long and courageous battle with both Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Gary was born on August 30, 1947, in Hoosick Falls. After graduating from Tamarac High School he was inducted into the the United States Army in October, 1966. After two years of service including a tour of duty in Vietnam, he was honorably discharged in 1968. Gary was a lifelong member of the Pittstown United Methodist Church, a member of the Pittstown Volunteer Fire Company and a "Charter Member" of the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps. Over the years, Gary worked for several area businesses including: the Warren Fane Co., the former Garden Way Co. and successfully created his own D.J. enterprise, "Music Unlimited" and eventually drove a city bus before retiring for C.D.T.A. in Albany in 2009. Gary was an avid gardener, music enthusiast, and loved creating with his hands. His passion for cars led him to his prize possession, his 1971 Plymouth Duster and also took him to the Schaghticoke fair for many years to compete in the annual demolition derby, which he won several times. Gary had a tremendous love for life, family and friends, and his many pets. He will be sorely missed by everyone he knew. Gary is survived by his sisters, Donna Lewis and Gloria Lewis-Calhoun; his sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory and Noelle Lewis and Matthew and Allison Lewis; a daughter, Brittany Lewis; five grandchildren, Kyle, Blake, Christian, Aiden and Jackson Lewis and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his late parents, Harold and Edith (Eycleshymer) Lewis, Gary was predeceased by a sister, the late Marilyn Hoag. A private funeral service for Gary will be held in the Pittstown United Methodist Church. Friends are welcome to attend his committal service on Saturday, April 3, in the Norton Cemetery in Pittstown at 12 p.m. Relatives and friend are invited to call on Friday, April 2, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc. All guests will be asked to follow current N.Y.S. Health Dept. COVID-19 guidelines for proper social distancing and face masks. In lieu of floral gifts, memorial gifts if desired may be made to the Pittstown United Methodist Church, the Wounded Warrior Foundation or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation in memory of Gary H. Lewis.

Gary was well liked at Gardenway and kind and friendly to all.. My best memories were being at the fair to see the demolition derby. One of my (and my families) favorite drivers. Prayers for his family for comfort, peace and a lot of good memories.

I worked with Gary at Brittonkill when we were driving school buses. He was a great guy and a pleasure to be with. I always had good memories of him. He will be greatly missed.
