Shuhart, George A. Jr. STEPHENTOWN George A. Shuhart Jr., age 79 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 29, 2016. He was born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., lived most of his life in Rensselaer and has resided in Stephentown for the past 23 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Shuhart was employed as a professional firefighter for the City of Albany for 26 years, retiring in 1986. George helped create the Albany Permanent Professional Firefighter Association (APPFA). He also worked for Wells Fargo Armored Company for 15 years, serving as a Shop Steward for Teamsters Local 294 for the last five of those years. George was a member of the Rensselaer Council 267 KofC, Elks Lodge 2530 in Kinderhook, Melvin Roads American Legion Post 1231 in East Greenbush for 44 years and International Association of Firefighters. He was a life member of both the James Hill Hook and Ladder Fire Co. in Rensselaer and the Nassau Sportsman Club, where he helped organize the fishing derby for many years. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church in Rensselaer. Son of the late George A. and Grace Stallone Shuhart Sr.; husband of Beverly Buckbee Shuhart and the late Joan Vooris Shuhart; father of Joan (Michael) Grzyboski, George (Jacelyn) Shuhart, Debra (Bernhardt) DeGiule, Gary (Maria) Shuhart, Christopher (Cristi) Shuhart and BethAnne (James) LaMountain; step-father of Michael (Debra) Buckbee, Stephen (Debra) Buckbee and Susan (Debra) Neumann; brother of Thelma (Mario) Fedele, Dolores (Louis) Dambrosi, Paul (Cathy) Shuhart and the late Catherine (Robert) Mabeus. Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Tuesday, July 5, 2016, from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in the Cemetery of the Evergreens, New Lebanon.
