Stopera, Glenn M. SCOTIA Glenn M. Stopera, 67, died on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Albany Medical Center. Glenn was born in Utica to the late John J. and Mildred M. (Daigneault) Stopera. He worked as a housing specialist for the U.S. Department of Housing of Urban Development. He was very involved in youth sports and the community, and coached baseball and basketball, and served as the president of Tartan Basketball. His most notable accomplishment was when he served as an assistant coach and helped lead the Scotia Varsity boys basketball team to win back-to-back New York State Championships in 2014 and 2015. He was an avid golfer who belonged to Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course. He loved competing in local and state amateur golf tournaments. Glenn is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathy (O'Loughlin) Stopera; his four children, Melissa (Richard) Lane, Michael (Alyssa) Stopera, Jeff Stopera, and Scott Stopera; his eight siblings, Jack (Nancy) Stopera, David (Annie) Stopera, Dan (Michelle) Stopera, Peter (Terry) Stopera, Sue (Bill) Niedrach, Jill (David) Conroy, Joan (J.D.) Duguid, and Bill (Perri) Stopera; one grandchild, Dylan Lane; sister-in-law Bridget O'Loughlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Friday, July 16, at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 810 Union St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 3 until 8 p.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society
or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
