My fondest memories of school are of playing sports under the coaching of "Coach" Mead at Voorheesville many years ago.

Coach Mead made an indelible print on the fabric of Voorheesville.
My earliest memory of Coach is from about 1967, when my older siblings and I would go skating on Coach Mead's pond. Lights and music speakers mounted on poles around the pond, geese chasing you back onto the ice if you ventured off the rink.
"Smile, Tiger!" if you passed him in the hallway. All the kids loved him. To descibe him today as politically incorrect is only scratching the surface, but would go a long way towards explaining why there never will be, and never can be, another "Coach".
All who crossed paths with him were enriched by the experience, and all of Voorheesville will feel his loss. My condolences to his friends and family.

My condolances to Coaches family.Although I had not seen "Coach" in quite a few years,he is very vivid in my memory. He taught me how to play sports, enjoy them and how to live and enjoy life.Voorheesville will miss him. What a refreshing sight to see him driving down village streets in his horse drawn surry. V.C.H.S. Class of '53

Harold was first my driver's ed coach and then became my step-grandfather. I feel truly blessed for having had him in my life. He was the first face I saw when I moved to Voorheesville and started high school. I was nervous and anxious and here came Coach down the hall in his plaid shirt, shorts, and bowtie. He looked at me and did an air horn gesture and said.."Smile, it ain't that bad". All fear was gone as I tried to figure out who this strange man was and what part he played at VCHS. I was soon to find out that he touched everyone in that same flamboyant but gentle way. I will love him forever and Norma too. God bless you Coach and thank you for giving me the best step dad in outlandish and has filled my family's life with joy.

Last time I saw Coach Mead was at our 30th and he was still the same character he always was. Probably not a great man but certainly a great guy and one of a kind. My condolences to all.

I too, have many fond memories of Coach. He always made you laugh!
He taught me how to drive a stick shift, while saying Hello to the girls (cows) as we drove by.
He will certainly be missed!
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

The village and town has lost one of it's last "originals". One of my first memories after moving here in 1971 was of Coach...Driver's Ed, Ice skating, the &^%$ goat etc. Those of us who had the pleasure of knowing this complex but simple man have had thier lives enriched(as well as our vocabularies!!)For some of us, along with our children and grandchildren he gave us the only opportunity to ride in a horse drawn buggy. Soooooo many memories.
My symapthies to Coach's family and friends..we all have been blessed to have known him
