Harvey Rosen Obituary

Rosen, Harvey Martin BOCA RATON, Fla. Harvey Martin Rosen, age 89, of Boca Raton, passed away on March 1, 2016, after a long and wonderful life. Harvey was born in Cortland, N.Y. on January 18, 1927, and was the son of Hyman and Rose Rosen. He had five siblings, including his sister, Martha Sanders Vellano, who he was extremely close to and introduced Harvey to his wife, Penny. Harvey graduated from New York Military Academy in 1944. Harvey received his bachelors from Cornell University in 1949, and was proud to be alumnae. He also attended Columbia University's MBA program for just a few days before deciding he was better suited to Upstate New York, so Harvey received an MBA at Syracuse University in 1951. Harvey served in the United States Army in Japan from 1945-1947. He was very proud of his service to this country. Harvey worked in his family's business, State National Kosher Provisions, in Albany, for many years along with his father-in-law, Hyman Aberman. He also worked at Scrap King in Cortland, the Rosen family business. Harvey enjoyed investing in the stock market and managed various real estate properties. He was an avid reader with expertise in all facts related to World War II. He loved his life in Boca Raton, and in Albany. Harvey travelled the world and had some very special friends who he shared life's pleasures. Harvey had 50 wonderful years of marriage celebrated with his adored wife, Penny Aberman Rosen. He was fortunate to have a second special woman in his life, Barbara Manning, for the past 13 years. Harvey always said how he was blessed with not just one- but two- incredible women in his life. Although Penny was a hard act to follow, Barbara became one of the family, and was compassionate and a loving addition to all. Harvey is survived by his three children and their spouses, Mark (and Leslie Newman) Rosen of Slingerlands, Amy (and Stephen) Manchester of Sudbury, Mass., and Ronni (and Randy) Morrison of Weston, Fla. Harvey was known as "Papa" and he was blessed with four grandchildren who he adored more than anything; Adam and Lauren Manchester of New York, N.Y., Jack Rosen of Slingerlands, and Jacob Morrison, of Weston. In addition, he was a beloved grandfather to Jason and Kevin Morrison. He was also blessed to be cared for in his later years by Audley Littibdare, who was constantly by his side. Harvey is survived by several special nieces and a community of friends and extended family. Services at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Rd. in Albany on Friday, March 4, 2016, at 12 p.m. Rabbi Scott Shpeen will be officiating. Following the service, interment will be held in the Temple Israel Cemetery, on Western Avenue, in Guilderland.
