Helen Barna Obituary
COHOES - Helen Barna, a lifelong resident of Cohoes, died on September 27, 2023, at the age of 103.
She was born on July 19, 1920, to Magdalina Bereza Warynycia and Kyrlo Warynycia.
Helen's life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, adventure, and cherished memories. Helen attended Cohoes High School. At the age of 16, she took on her first job at the N & S Shirt Factory in Cohoes. Helen married John Barna at St. Peter and St. Paul's Church on August 16, 1947, where she was a communicant for many years.
Helen's professional life took her to Willams Press in Menands, where she worked for 26 years in the business office after earning a degree from comptometer school. Her retirement ushered in what she often referred to as her greatest role, caring for her two granddaughters Michele and Susan, with boundless love and devotion.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Marcia Lasky; son-in-law, Dennis Lasky; granddaughter, Susan Lasky; and her extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother, John Warynycia, and his wife, Teddie; and her granddaughter, Michele Lasky.
A celebration of Helen's life will be held in Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy on Tuesday, October 3, at 10 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the church on Tuesday from 9 until 10 a.m. Interment will be held following the Mass in St. Peter and St. Paul's Cemetery in Waterford.

I will forever remember Helen´s loving and caring personality. She was one of my father´ and brother, Dr Stephen Sgambati Sr/Jr, oldest and respected patients. Always ready with conversation and a story or two around family. We enjoyed her visits and will always remember her kind spirit. Rest now with the angels Helen. Eternal rest is your gift.
