Helen Jean Mahony

Mahony, Helen Jean RENSSELAER Helen Jean (Salisbury) Mahony, 86 of Rensselaer, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with Alzheimer's on Monday, September 6, 2021. Helen was born in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of the late Leroy and the late Helen (Ebert) Salisbury. She graduated from Albany High School and held various business positions, including legal secretary, prior to her most important job of raising her children at home. Helen was known for her extraordinary culinary and catering skills, hard work ethic, love of music (especially hymns), endless energy and her ability to tear up a dance floor. She was optimistic, selfless, compassionate and had the gift of encouragement, always knowing the right words to say at the right time to inspire others and lift them up. Being a woman of strong faith in God, Helen devoted her life to serving the Lord, her family and countless others. She taught Sunday school for many years, showed her children great values by her godly example and was an incredible blessing to her husband. Her love of vacationing on the east coast gave her family many treasured memories. When her children were older, she re-entered the work force as a gourmet cook and a secretary for the NYS Health Department. After retirement, Helen enjoyed spending quality time with her beloved grandchildren, redecorating her home with her husband and ministering to several people in nursing homes. She touched the lives of so many people and her legacy of love will live on through her family and loved ones. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Charles "Chuck" Mahony; her daughters, Lori Fuerst, Lynne (Bob) Rock and Lisa Mahony; her sister, Shirley Irwin; her grandchildren, Jesse Rock, Justin Wisnoski and Nicole Wisnoski; and many of her cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four of her siblings, Kenneth Salisbury, William Salisbury, Edward Salisbury and Joan George. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, September 18, at 11 a.m. at First Bible Baptist Church, 4331 NY 150, West Sand Lake, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Helen's name to either First Bible Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association @ https://www.alz.org.
