Herbert Schmidt Obituary
ALBANY - Herbert V. Schmidt, 96, formerly of Highpointe in Troy, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 7, 2023.
Born in Bielitz, Poland, he was the son of the late Julius and Hildegard Semler Schmidt and was educated in Germany through college where he earned the equivalent of a bachelors degree.
Mr. Schmidt immigrated to the United Sates in 1956 coming to Troy and had been employed by Russell Sage College for 30 years in Troy and Albany, from where he retired in 1987, as the superintendant of Buildings and Grounds.
He was a member of the former Germania Hall in Lansingburgh (presently the German-American Club of Albany) and of Faith Lutheran Church in Speigletown.
Beloved husband of over 62 years of Marianna Bayer Schmidt, until her passing on March 7, 2018, and who he married on April 27, 1956; devoted father of Peter (Hilda) Schmidt of Schaghticoke and Paul Schmidt of Waterford; brother of the late Kurt (late Irene) Schmidt; grandfather of Eric Schmidt of Waterford, Heather Schmidt of Lansingburgh, Kim (Dave) Boltri of Rotterdam, and Tina (Jeremy) Cramer of New Scotland; great-grandfather of Nicole, Cailee, Joe, Kristina, Jeffrey, and Mackayla; uncle of Hermann (Karin) BayerJr., Anita (Werner) Haringer, and Gabrielle (Michael) Rigo-Titze; and her two daughters, Antonia and Veronica (Johan), all of Munich, Germany; and Tomas Frank of Georgia, U.S.A.; also survived by one great-great-grandson, Jackson; two great-great-granddaughters, Sophia, and Aria; and two cousins in Germany.
Private funeral services for the family will be held at the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel at Oakwood Cemetery, 186 Oakwood Avenue, Troy, NY 12182, followed by burial in the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the German-American Club of Albany, 32 Cherry St., Albany, NY 12205, in memory of Herbert V. Schmidt.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue, Troy, NY 12182. Phone (518) 235-0952.

I have just learned of Herb´s death!

I worked for Herb many years at the Junior College of Albany, Herb was a wonderful person, and I have many fond memories of those days!
