COHOES - Irene Chorny, 83, entered into eternal life Saturday, March 16, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Stryi, Ukraine, she was the daughter of the late Wasyl and Maria Szyszla Fedusiw. She immigrated to the United States in 1950, and the family settled in Troy where she met the love of her life, Bohdan P. Chorny. They were married in 1956 and together raised their family.
Irene had been employed as a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal for many years until her retirement. She then worked at the former Cohoes Fashions which was fitting because she was always regarded as a "Fashionista," known for her class, grace and elegance. She was also a great cook, whose delicacies were the highlight of every family holiday. A lifelong sunworshipper, she looked forward to her vacations to Aruba every year. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends, especially pinochle.
Irene was the loving wife of Bohdan Chorny who passed in 2020; the beloved mother of Kristyna M. Moroukian (Herb Gibbs) of Wynantskill, Michael P. Chorny (Terri) of Las Vegas, Andre B. Chorny (Melissa) of Ballston Lake and Larissa A. Fiacco (Anthony) of Mechanicville; the sister of Bohdan Fedusiw and the late Steve Fedusiw, Anna Koshikar, Sally Fedusiw. She was "Nani" to Jeffrey, Danielle (Frankie DiSomma), Camryn, Dylan, Jenna and Anthony Chet, and she would have welcomed her first great-granddaughter into the family next month. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as her angel of a caregiver and "Bestie," Megan Buck.
In addition to her parents, husband and siblings, she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Kim "Liz" Chorny.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 11 a.m. in St. Peter & St. Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Friday from 4-6 p.m.
A Panakhyda service will be held in the funeral home Friday evening at 6 p.m.
