Fleck, James Andrew DDS WATERFORD James Andrew Fleck, DDS, 80, of Towpath Lane in Waterford and winter resident of Bradenton, Fla., died suddenly on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Lakeland Regional Health Center in Lakeland, Fla., as the result of injuries sustained in an accident. Dr. Fleck was born on September 10, 1936, in Brooklyn. He was the ninth of twelve children raised in the loving family of the late Raymond A. and Dorothy Canavan Fleck. Following his graduation from Midwood High School in 1955, he honorably served in the United States Army where he was inspired to pursue a career in dentistry. Upon return to the United States from his service in Germany, Dr. Fleck attended Brooklyn College and received a Doctor of Dental Surgery from NYU College of Dentistry in 1967. He then established his first dental practice in Germantown, N.Y. where he settled with his young family. In 1972 he opened an office in Coxsackie. There, he practiced and resided for over 30 years before moving with his wife, Delarue, to Waterford following their retirement. In addition to his successful career, Dr. Fleck avidly pursued his many passions. He was a biker, a skier and traveled extensively with his wife, family and friends. He was a voracious reader and a longtime listener, supporter and volunteer of WAMC Northeast Public Radio. Dr. Fleck is the beloved husband of Delarue E. Conway Fleck, whom he married in May, 1978. He is the devoted father of Deirdre O'Connell (Stephen) of Upton, Mass., J. Andrew Fleck (Kalyn) of Castleton, and Andrea Fleck-Nisbet (Justin) of Glen Rock, N.J.; grandfather to seven grandchildren, Aoife, Emily, and Eoin O'Connell, J. Andrew III and Mia Fleck, and Lorca and Tobias Nisbet. He is pre- deceased by three brothers, George Fleck, Louis Fleck, and Thomas Fleck. He is survived by eight of his eleven siblings, Barbara Hirschfield, Raymond Fleck, Richard Fleck, Kenneth Fleck, Dolores Fleck, Walter Fleck, Leonard Fleck, and Judith Geery, and many of his beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on May 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9 in Clifton Park, NY 12065. A calling hour will precede the service in the funeral home. My Uncle Jimmy - a strong, independent man 'til the end. Never feared working hard, playing hard or speaking his mind. You always knew where he stood and he always garnered respect. He loved to be around family, reminisce, tell jokes and laugh. And laugh he did. And laugh we did. There was always good times when he was in the room. God, we're going to miss you. The last time I saw him at Uncle Louie's funeral, I said goodbye and he said "I love you." And I said, "I love you, too." Grateful for that moment. RIP Uncle Jimmy, well done. xxxooo Babs

He was a gracious person. Enjoyed talking with him at the Y in Clifton Park and seeing him every so often here in Bradenton. He was a wonderful person, sorry to hear of his passing.
