James Powhida Obituary
ALBANY - James C. Powhida of Albany died peacefully on February 23, 2023, after a long illness.
He was born in Glens Falls on March 23, 1944, to Joseph Powhida and Viola Gregory. James is survived by his sons, James A. Powhida of Albany and John M. Powhida of Boston; and by his grandchildren, Ray Anne Powhida and Robin James Powhida. James is also survived by his brothers, William, and Thomas; and his sister, Mary. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph.
A veteran of The United States Air Force, James was employed by The Albany Jewish Community Center. He was an avid fitness enthusiast, holding the shot put record at Hudson Falls high school for decades. Although he faced hardships as a child and was raised largely in foster care and orphanages, James persevered to be a self-taught scholar of art, philosophy and the sciences. Whether strength training or cycling, James took great pride in his physical capabilities. He will be remembered for his unique, brilliant mind and his biting honest humor.
Service will be private.
