Jane McDonough Obituary

McDonough, Jane
SIMSBURY, Conn. - Jane Kingman McDonough, 94, of Simsbury, Conn., was born in Dover, New Hampshire, to Bradford and E. Jane Kingman, and raised in Massachusetts and Kansas City. Her father was the headmaster of the Pembroke Country Day School, and she attended with fellow student John Kander.
Upon graduation, Jane attended the National College of Education and later worked as a pre-school teacher in Brooklyn, N.Y. It was in New York that Jane met her future husband, Peter McDonough, traveling by train on Thanksgiving weekend. They lived in Brooklyn for a few years and then moved to Rye Colony where they welcomed their son, Timothy, and two years later, son, Mark. The family later moved to Ridgefield, Connecticut where they raised their family.
Jane was very dedicated to her work with the League of Women Voters and the importance of everyone taking part in the privilege of voting. She had a love for animals and her dogs, Rusty, Sandy and Molly.
Jane and Peter moved to San Mateo, Calif. for Peter's work at Bank of America and later retired to her beloved Durham, New Hampshire, where she was surrounded by family, including her sister Ann, and her Tuttle cousins, owners of one of the oldest family farms in America, dating back to 1632.
In later years, Jane and Peter moved back to Simsbury, Connecticut to be closer to family and her three treasured grandchildren, Katie, Kevin and Ryan McDonough.
She was predeceased by her parents Bradford and Jane; husband, Peter; her sister, Ann K. Valpey; and brother-in-law, Daniel; brother, Bradford S. Kingman; and sister-in-law, Christine; brother-in-law, Bill; and sisters-in-law, Nancy McDonough and Carolyn McDonough. Jane is survived by Tim (Natalie), Niskayuna, N.Y. and Mark (Kelly), Simsbury, Conn.; grandchildren, Katie of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kevin and Ryan McDonough, Simsbury, Conn.; nephews, Stephen Valpey, Philip, Brad and David Kingman; and niece, Caroline Hartranft; and many McDonough nieces and nephews.
