Jeanette Quinn Obituary

Quinn, Jeanette Maria ALBANY Jeanette Maria Quinn passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 after a long illness. She was born Jeneriana Maria DeCrescenzo to loving parents Peter and Mary in 1936. Jeanette had many cousins, uncles, and aunts who watched over her as she grew from a pretty girl to a beautiful young lady. In 1954, she married Roger Quinn, to whom she stayed friends with until his death in 2011. Their marriage was far from common. They shared a love of literature, poetry, and fitness. They became expert judo players and taught hundreds the art in Delmar, including their three children, Peter, Eleanor, and Luke. Jeanette learned the sport before it was fashionable for women to compete, but many black belts in the sport proclaimed that she was one of the best technicians in the nation. Jeanette's varied interests did not stop there. She was an accomplished pianist, who could play just about anything by ear. In her late 40s, she learned to paint. In the following decades she painted hundreds of landscapes and portraits. She sold a few, but like many artists held on to most of them. Today her paintings adorn the houses of her children. Jeanette was a survivor of breast cancer. She spent many years giving her time to the Cancer Society through the counseling of others who had to endure the disease. Near the end of her life, while battling Alzheimer's, Jeanette spent much of her time in comfort thanks to the great care of Nick, Darlene, Danielle, Thristine, and Barbara. We would also like to thank Linda Morgan for making our mother's final weeks as comfortable as possible. Jeanette will be missed by her three children and their spouses, Peter and Sheryl, Eleanor and Mike, and Luke and Lia, and her six grandchildren, Shaun, Erica, Peter, Paul, Trinity, and Sofia. In lieu of flowers, please send donations for continued research to the Alzheimer's Association, Northeastern New York Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 10 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Magin & Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave., on Tuesday morning after 8 a.m. Interment, St. Agnes Cemetery.

Peter, Eleanor, and Luke: My prayers are with you and your families. I have been out of the area and unable to get to the service. Your mother was a wonderful and kind woman of great humor and had such a great laugh. She not only was a judo pioneer and gifted teacher but she taught so many of the players in the area that soft touch she had on the mat. She was a gifted woman and it was a gift to me to have known her.

FAmily, So sorry to hear of your loss. Janette was my mom's best friend when I was growing up. I have fond memories of her. She and my mom would go out every Thursday night for ladies night. Boy, did they look so beautiful. Jeanette brought such joy to our home. I loved being around her. I was blessed to have her as my godmother. She always made me feel very special. I am thankful I got to know her. Such a kind, fun loving spirit. I will never forget her and the beautiful impact she has had on my life. I am thankful for the numerous wonderful memories. I mourn deeply for your loss. She was one of a kind. Sincerely, Pati ("Patsy" Haggerty) Still

Pete, Eleanor, Luke, and families, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom and dad were both very special people. As one of the first female black belts in the area, Jeanette was an inspiration to many young girls who wanted to learn judo. She was always kind, friendly and helpful to me whenever we met. I remember her patience in teaching judo to children and adults alike.

Jeanette will be long remembered and was well loved both within the judo community and outside of it.

My sincere sympathy to you all.

I was Jeanette's next-door neighbor while she lived on Bridgewood Lane. She was never without a smile and a kind word. She loved being one of the "walking ladies" and enjoyed shopping and going out to eat with her buddies. Rest in peace Jeanette.
