Prahl, Joan F.
EAST GREENBUSH - Joan F. Prahl died September 11, 2025, six days shy of her 92nd birthday, at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush. She lived in Amsterdam most of her life, relocating to Delmar in 2005.
Joan graduated from St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam in 1951, and earned an associate degree at Fulton-Montgomery Community College in 1985. She also attended classes at Albany Business College, RPI and the College of Saint Rose. Retiring as an assistant vice president from KeyBank in 1994, after 23 years of service, Joan then worked as an American Greetings merchandiser from 1994 to 1997. Earlier, she worked at New York Telephone, Mohasco Industries, and Ward Products in Amsterdam and GE in Schenectady.
She was a member of BPW, Financial Women International, and Parents without Partners - Schenectady Chapter. A former member and volunteer at Bethlehem Senior Services, she previously belonged to St. Stanislaus Seniors of Amsterdam (where she served as trip coordinator for five years).
She enjoyed crafts, Scrabble, Mahjong, reading, and crossword and word search puzzles. Travel was a passion - she visited 23 states, Canada, Australia, and seven European countries.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Mary (Rzeznik) and Boleslaw "Barney" Aksztulewicz. She is survived by daughter, Dana (Barry) Yanulavich of Selkirk; and grandson, Kai Yanulavich of Delmar. She also leaves a son, Mark Prahl of Upton, Mass.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 6 p.m., at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar, N.Y. 12054. Calling hours will be held prior to the service, beginning at 4 p.m., at the funeral home.
Private interment will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam.
