John J. Biscone

Biscone, John J. RAVENA John Joseph Biscone, 93, died January 2, 2008 at his residence. John was born on April 18, 1914, the first of Joseph and Rose Mairino Biscone's ten children. He lived his entire life in Ravena, N.Y., attended St. Patrick's School, Ravena, Cathedral Academy, Albany, Niagara University and graduated from Albany Law School in 1937. John was assistant county attorney for Albany County for 32 years, town attorney for the town of Coeymans for over 30 years and village attorney for the village of Ravena for over 40 years. He had always maintained a private practice of law and had many faithful clients for generations in families. John was a lifetime member of the Albany County Bar Association and a member of the New York State and American Bar Associations. Active in his community, he was an organizer of the Senior Projects of Ravena and served on its original board of directors, a member of the pastoral council of St. Patrick's Parish and a trustee of St. Patrick's Parish for many years. He was grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, Mother McAuley Council and obtained Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Looney Assembly. John was instrumental in organizing the Hudson Valley Little League and was an active member of the Ravena Lions Club. John also served as town of Coeymans democratic chairman for 12 years. John served in the US Navy during World War II. Active in war veteran organizations, he was a past commander of Ravena Post 114 of the American Legion, past county judge advocate of the legion and past treasurer of AMVETS. John was predeceased by his wife, Mary V. Rotella Biscone, who died on July 2, 1991. He is survived by his four children, Joanne Justice (Kevin), John T. Biscone (Kathleen), Michael J. Biscone (Darlene) and Mark A. Biscone (Barbara); 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Biscone; and sister, Mary Biscone. John was predeceased by his brothers, Dominick, Christopher, Francis and Anthony Biscone and his sisters, Louise Harvey, Martha Musso and Rosemary Serapilio. A Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated in St. Patrick's Church, Ravena on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in John's memory be made to Senior Projects of Ravena, PO Box 142, Ravena, NY 12143 or to Waldo County General Hospital, Mary V.
