John Brendese Obituary

Brendese, John MD
TROY - Dr. John Brendese passed away peacefully Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the age of 90. John was born in Troy, N.Y. in 1934, to the late Joseph and Rafaella Brendese, who came from Italy. He is survived by his two daughters, Michele (Don), and Christina; and his two sons, John (Stephanie) and David; and grandchildren, Nicolaus, Mercedes, Joseph, Matthew, Marissa (Corey), Daniel (Katie), Adam and Luke; and great-granddaughters, Eva and Ivy. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Joan Payette Brendese; and also his only sibling, Joseph R. Brendese. He was a kind and loving partner to his spouse, Joan, and missed her so very much after she passed in 1998. He was also an amazing father to their children, Michele, Tina, John and David. John graduated from Siena as salutatorian in 1957, and went onto pursue a medical career as a Dermatologist. He graduated from New Jersey School of Medicine in 1961. He next completed his internship in Schenectady at Ellis Hospital and he joined the Navy for two years as a doctor. He finished his medical training with three years dermatologist residency at Tufts University in Boston. He started his own practice in Troy in 1966 as a Dermatologist and retired at the age of 85. John loved being a doctor and helping to diagnose and cure patients. He was voted Dermatologist of the year in 2006 in Hudson Valley top doctors, a reward well deserved. When he retired in 2020 at the age of 85, he was missed by his patients who considered him not only intelligent but also a very compassionate doctor. John was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. We will forever cherish his genuine love, patience and support of his family and remember his dry but wonderful sense of humor. John was also kind and caring to everyone that he met and willing to help them in any way possible. He taught his children and grandchildren that you are only as good as your word, to never give up and if you worked hard enough you can achieve your goals. The most important lesson he taught them was to be honest, humble and kind. We would like to thank Peregrine, Eddy Village Green at Cohoes and Hospice for giving him extra special and loving care. A Memorial service will be held Friday, at 7:30 p.m., at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday, from 4:30-7:30 p.m., prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, N.Y. 12205 or Camp Bravehearts, 19 Cambridge Rd., Albany, N.Y. 12203.

RIP Dr. Brendese, Iam sure as for my self, children and other family members we will remember you fondly as you did save the skin on many of people with the mixtures you prescribed that no other doctor seems to know how to handle for skin problems. You were truly a blessing for my family. Condolences to your family. You will be missed.

He was my dermatologist. He found a pimple on my shoulder that turned out to be squamous cell carcinoma. I thought nothing of it, I thanked him for removing it. He was a great doctor. I was sorry to see him retire, and I miss him.

I knew Dr. Brendese in his dual roles as parent and a doctor .The Brendese family was one of many families that were the glue that made growing up in Sycaway in the 60's and 70's fun. I taught all of the children at School 18 and DMS.Asu Doctor, the best thing he said to me when i presented to him with hives was." It's not your nerves , doctors only say that to women when they have no idea what's causing the allergic reaction"!

My sincere condolences to the entire Brendese family , on the passing of Dr. John. He was three years ahead of me at both TPS-18 and LaSalle. His brother Joe was my class mate. John was a bright, caring human being. My brother Tom was one of his patients for years. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Respectfully, Jerry Brown
