John Byrne Obituary

MECHANICVILLE John Paul Byrne, 96, former longtime resident of Washington St., Hemstreet Park, died peacefully at his home in Guilderland on Monday, November 10, 2003. Born in Schuylerville, he was the son of the late John and Bridget Collins Byrne. Mr. Byrne worked as a brakeman for the Boston and Maine Railroad, primarily in Mechanicville, for over 40 years before retiring. He was a parishioner of Assumption-St. Paul Church in Mechanicville. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Claire Hipwell Byrne, whom he married September 26, 1939. Also survived by his four children and their spouses, Carolyn Byrne and husband Winsor Lott of Albany, Larry Byrne of Punta Gorda, Fla., Kevin and wife Ramona Byrne of Ephrata, Pa. and Peter and wife Cathy Byrne of Jamestown and daughter-in-law Lynn Byrne of Clifton Park; grandchildren, Beth Radlo, Laurie Adams, Jennefer Przezdzieck, Bridget Brower, Brian, Stephen, Timothy, Andrew, Jason, Ryan and Derek Byrne; and great-grandchildren, Ben and Jessica Radlo, Lily and Logan Brower; along with nieces and nephews. Mr. Byrne was predeceased by brother, Edward Byrne and sisters, Katherine Foley, Mary Lakin and Helen Mitchell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Assumption-St. Paul William Street Church. Interment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Mechanicville. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Paul's family has asked that those who wish to memorialize Paul's life, send a contribution to the American Heart Assoc.
