John Cafararo Obituary

Cafararo, John A.
MECHANICVILLE - John A. Cafararo, of Hewitt St, died peacefully in the home he loved so much, on Sunday, September 28, surrounded by his loving and faithful family. Born in Mechanicville on July 7, 1940, son of the late Earl and Viola Favichio Cafararo, he was a graduate of Mechanicville High School.
Affectionately known as "Gibbo," he worked at Grand Union most of his career but had also worked at West Vaco Paper Co. and the Office of the NYS Senate prior to retirement. He was a longtime member of the Mechanicville-Stillwater Elks Lodge 1403. A die-hard NY Yankee and N.Y. Giants fan, he loved to sit out on his back patio watching games, enjoying the scenic oasis he created outside. Gibbo loved his home, beautifying his yard, and spent countless hours tending to his flower beds, vegetable garden, or lawn. Everything was always perfect. He enjoyed occasional trips to the casino with his wife. Most of all, he cherished his family and the time he spent with all of them. He was a proud husband, father, and papa.
John was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Karen Sweatt Cafararo, who passed away in 2023. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Ann Cafararo and Connie Callahan, and his brother, Anthony Cafararo.
He is survived by his three devoted children, Kevin Cafararo, Lynn (Eric) Cady, and Jennifer Cafararo, all of Mechanicville. He was the proud grandfather of Alyssa Cafararo, Haile (Keenan) Che, Nicholas Cafararo, and McKenna and John Cady; and the cherished great-grandfather of Knox and Mila Che. He is also survived by his sister, Carol (Ken) Baker, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 N. Main Street, Mechanicville. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m., with entombment in St. Paul's Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, N.Y. 12208 in loving memory of John A. Cafararo.
