CLIFTON PARK - John P. Gorman Sr., 83, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at St. Peter's Hospital while listening to Irish music with his family and friends lovingly by his side.
Born on November 22, 1939, to Beatrice (Cutler) and James Gorman Sr., John grew up loving sports and having fun in Hudson with his eight siblings. He graduated from Hudson High School, where he served as president of the class of 1958.
After a brief stint playing football in college, John decided the military would be a better path. A veteran, John spent four years in the United States Marine Corps. From there, he retired from the United Parcel Service after 30 years of service. John was active in his community, volunteering as a fireman and leading his son's Boy Scout troop in his younger years, and then becoming a member of the American Legion, AMVETS, and several other veterans' organizations in his later years. He was also an active member of the Port Charlotte, Fla. Moose Lodge.
Proud of his Irish heritage, his favorite holiday was St. Patrick's Day, and he would often drive his green convertible Karmann Ghia in the local parades. John loved golf, gardening, and spending time in Florida soaking up the sun. One of his proudest moments was the hole-in-one shot he made at Pioneer Hills Golf Course in June 2001.
Above all, John enjoyed spending time with family and friends. A bit of a prankster, he loved to laugh - sometimes at you, but mostly with you. He was a fun-loving soul, a loyal friend, and devoted to his family, for whom he enjoyed cooking meatballs. He was bigger than life and always had a story and a smile to share with those around him. He truly loved his family and friends - and if you knew him, you felt it. He will be missed dearly.
John is survived by his life partner, Georgianna Schoonmaker; his children and their spouses, John and Laurie Gorman, and Candace and Jerry Hill, and their mother, Sandra Gorman; his grandchildren, Anna and Molly Hill, and Aiden and Mya Gorman; Georgianna's children, David and Jason French; and his two siblings, Katherine Legget and Joseph Gorman; as well as his many loved nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, James and Beatrice Gorman; and his siblings, James Gorman, Thomas Gorman, Della Phillips, Michael (Mickey) Gorman, Paul (Eddie) Gorman, and Gerald Gorman.
All are welcome to join us in celebrating John's life on Sunday, July 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 E. High St., Ballston Spa. A service will follow at 4 p.m. Burial with military honors will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 24, in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
