John Grady Obituary

Grady, John A. ALBANY John A. Grady died Sunday, October 21, 2007 after becoming ill with scleroderma. Born October 14, 1953, he was the fourth child of the late Eugene (Mike) and Angeline (Angie) Grady, formerly Gosse. John was known to many as a talented chef, restaurant manager, bartender, and caterer. He began his career working in Lombardo's Restaurant. He later worked in other fine establishments, to include the Lark Tavern. He was a loyal and dedicated employee at Pagliacci's Restaurant for many years, forced to retire sooner that he would have liked, secondary to his illness. John could always be called upon to plan a party, occasion, or special event at a moment's notice. He is also remembered as an avid sports fan, and loyal Yankee supporter. He is survived by his mother Angie; aunt, Katie and uncle, Bill Reith; sister, Patricia and brother-in-law, Paul Gallerani; brothers, Mickey (Debbie), Donald (Judy English); son, Zachary, who meant the world to him; nephews Brian and Scott Gallerani, Jeffrey and Brian Grady; niece, Jenna Grady, great-niece, Erin; and many cousins who cared for him deeply. He is also held in fond remembrance by the Armao family. His family would like to thank Dr.'s Giuliano, Marmulstein, Shapiro, Cagino, and associated office staff who cared for him, along with the staff of St. Peter's Hospital Coronary Care Unit, and Community Hospice. One of John's last decisions was to participate in the Albany Medical College Anatomical Gift Program in the hopes that further strides can be made in to the treatment and cure for scleroderma. A memorial service and a celebration of his life will be held at a future date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923, the Joan Nicole Prince Home, P.O. Box 2122, Scotia, NY 12302, and/or the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital.

To My Dearest Cousin Johnny,

Today Oct 21, 2021, Fourteen years ago you left all Us here on Earth, what a sad day that was Us, Your Family, and Friends.

You left Us far to young, but with your illness and pain, we know you had to leave Us.

Our Loving Lord took you home to be with him in his beautiful Heavenly Kingdom.

You are Our Angel, dancing in the sky and singing in the Angels choir. Maybe singing tunes with Elvis.

I feel an emptiness in My heart since you left. I look at your pictures and remember all the fun you and I had through the years as children and adults.

I Love You and miss You everyday Beautiful Angel Cousin Johnny.

I Pray I will see You again someday

Your Cousin,
Barbara Ann

Dear Angie, Patty, Mickey, Donald, Family & Friends of Johnny,

It is with sadness that we extend to you our sympathy and prayers regarding Johnny’s death. Johnny was always very personable, caring, happy, etc. and took time to share with everyone a kind hello, how's the family, and many fond memories. We are honored to be able to say that God had blessed our lives with the great gift of being neighbors and friends of The Grady Family.

I wanted you to know many prayed for Johnny. Fr. Young told me he was in hospice late September. Due to surgery and family illness we were unable to visit.

We lived the best times growing up together in the great South End and our loved St John's Parish. Our years at St. John’s will never be forgotten. Many days we reminisce sharing the love and teachings of our parents, the good Priests, Daughters of Charity, friends, and neighbors. Through their great example we were taught to love and care for one another. They were the structures of our faith and lives for our future. Until today we remain united spiritually in prayer and love, whether near or afar. These cherished times remain in our hearts forever.

I want to share this part of Johnny as it may help you to know he was prepared to meet Our Lord and is praying for all of us. My friend Peggy Carroll is a Eucharist Minister at St. Peter's Hospital. I called her and asked her to pray for John.and for all grieving his loss. Peggy told me she had brought The Eucharist to John and mentioned what a beautiful man he was. Upon preparing to receive the Eucharist he would bow his head and recite a private prayer. Closing his eyes he then extended his hands to receive the Eucharist very reverently. Peggy stated she could feel a strong spiritual presence and much peace surrounding John’s room. It was a beautiful experience for Peggy who stated she would forever remember this holy man and his family in her prayers.

Dear Angie God has given you a great grace to share in the sorrows of Our Blessed Virgin Mary. She will remain close to your heart and aid you through a Mother's great pain in the loss of a child. Be proud of all your children for they love you and are blessings to all.

To Patty, Mickey, Donald, and Family we feel your pain as when we lost our brother Joey. Time heals and God will hear our prayers for you.

Forever Friends and May God bless you,

Dorothy, Jerry, and The Gutta Family

There's Magic in a Special Cousin,

just by looking in his eyes.
His laughter is a source of joy,

Dear Angie, Patricia, Mickey & Donald

What a shock to open the Times Union to see Johnny's picture and notice in the paper. My heart goes out to all of you.

As a kid growing up in the South End and a friend of Patricia's (that's the name I will always know you as) I was at your home a lot. It was loud and crazy with young boys but fun.

Angie, I can't imagine how it feels to lose a child. May God give you strength to ease your pain with this heavy loss but to cherish all the happy memories that you have and to treasure always.

Patricia, Mickey and Donald I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. My prayers are for all of you, may God give you Peace, and comfort you through this most difficult time.

I miss the South End days and the people that made it great to live there. You are one of the nicest families ever to know. I can't count the many times I have thought about you. The rare times I would see Angie, I always asked how are the kids especically you Patricia.

God bless and keep all of you in His care and I will keep all of you in my prayers.
