Holstein, John J. TROY John Joseph "Jack" Holstein passed away peacefully at his home on September 26, 2022. Born in Albany on May 14, 1950, he was the son of the late Edwin Joseph and Katherine Jean (Hansen) Holstein. Jack grew up in Troy and was a 1968 graduate of Troy High School. He went on to further his education at SUNY Binghamton as a member of the class of 1972, where he majored in economics and minored in management. Jack worked at R.P.I. holding various management positions, including in environmental services and manager of site services at the field house. In his free time Jack enjoyed woodworking, playing basketball and softball, cheering on his Boston Red Sox, and rooting for Liverpool Soccer. He was also involved in the ministry at the R.P.I. Chapel and Cultural Center and volunteered much of his time to helping others. Jack is survived by his sister, Lynn Marie Holstein of Syracuse; his brother-in-law Eric Herbstritt of Greenville; his nephews, David and James Herbstritt; his close friend, Marlena Piper and her family; and his former wife, who became a beloved friend, Patty. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Judith Holstein. A funeral service will be celebrated Monday, October 3, at 11 a.m. at the R.P.I. Chapel and Cultural Center with a visitation before the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
