John Hunsicker Obituary

Hunsicker, John
KNOX - John R. Hunsicker, 66, a hardworking man known for his strength, determination, and unwavering positivity, passed away peacefully, on May 18, 2025, after a long illness.
Born in Schenectady, John was the son of the late Helmut and Lieselotte Hunsicker. He was raised in Princetown on his parents' dairy farm, where he developed his tireless work ethic from an early age, often working around the clock. He graduated from Schalmont High School and went on to attend SUNY Cobleskill's School of Agriculture.
John was a master tile setter for many years with the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local No. 2, most notably with Euro Tile. He retired recently after a long and respected career.
Beyond his trade, John devoted himself to working the land on the Berne farm property, where he cared for the draft horses and made hay, becoming locally known as the "hay guru." His deep understanding of mathematics and intuitive approach to planting made him a trusted resource in the community.
Proud of his German heritage, John had a refined palate and especially cherished his mother's traditional dishes. Though happiest when he was working, he always made time to cheer on his beloved New York Giants, often with great enthusiasm and volume.
John is survived by his devoted and best friend and loving partner of 26 years, Bonnie Donati; and her daughter Sheila Andres; his children, Falon (James) Hunsicker and Justin Hunsicker; granddaughter, Janayece; siblings, Lisa (David) Hutchinson, Theresa (Mike) Wasula, and Michael Hunsicker; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Services will be held on Monday, June 2, at 1:00 p.m., at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, Schenectady, with Pastor Jay Francis, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, from 11:00 a.m., until the Service.
In lieu of flowers those who wish may make a contribution in John's memory to Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue, at https://www.gentlegiantsdrafthorserescue.org

As I read of John's passing, many fond childhood memories came to mind. John was such a hard worker, even as a child. My siblings and I spent many hours on their family farm, especially during summer vacations. Have a wonderful time ordering everyone around on your heavenly farm!
