John Mahoney Obituary

Mahoney, John L. ALBANY John L. Mahoney, 53, of West Palm Beach, Fla., passed away suddenly on August 25, 2015, at his home. John was born December 21, 1961 in Troy and resided in Albany during his early years. He was a graduate of Albany Academy which he attended since kindergarten. He then attended Georgetown University, where he majored in philosophy. After College, John was employed for many years by the U.S. Federal Court in Washington, D.C., as a deputy court clerk. He also worked in Seattle and Austin, Texas, but settled in Florida working in the hospitality industry in Palm Beach. In the summer he also worked in Cape May, N.J., as well as spending time at his family home at Saranac Inn. John was predeceased by his father, Daniel H. Mahoney. He is survived by his mother, Joan F. Mahoney; his six siblings, Steven Mahoney (Roxanne), Deborah Mahoney, Laurie Kramer (John), Daniel G. Mahoney (Amy), Leslie Mahoney, and George Mahoney (Kathy). Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Sean and Erin Mahoney, Kelly Kramer, Brendan Mahoney, Chloe and Daniel A. Mahoney and Sara and John Mahoney. John loved to read, golf, and fish. He also had a great compassion for stray and abused animals. As an uncle to his nieces and nephews, he was second to none. They will miss his visits. His passion for cooking will also be missed, especially by his brothers and sisters. His abilities in the kitchen rivaled any competent fine dining chef. Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, on September 18, from 4-7 p.m. Burial services will be held privately by the family. Memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204-2718.

I am shocked and saddened by the news that I just found out about today. At one time John and I were the best of friends. He was my best buddy. In life, if we are lucky we make a connection, a strong bond, a real friendship. John was that to me. We went through a lot together. We traveled and lived together across the US. Those were great times. He was a great friend and companion I will always remember him and the times that we shared. I had not spoken to John since 1998. Regrettably, we lost touch with each other. I thought of him often through the years and had wondered how to get in touch with him. My best wishes to his family.

To the Mahoney Family,

I was saddened to hear of John's passing. We haven't spoken in many years but I still remember the times at Albany Academy where he always made me smile and laugh. He was a great guy and I will always look back fondly on the times that we spent together.

I'm so shocked by this sad news. I can remember John and I doing a recorder duet in the third grade and years later all of you welcoming me into a home when I had none of my own. Mrs. Mahoney, Dan, George, Les, Laurie, and everyone, I am so so sorry for the empty place at your most welcoming table.

Love to you all,

Peter
