John Murgia Obituary

Murgia, John E. Jr. LOMITA, Calif. John E. Murgia Jr. of Lomita, passed away on August 4, 2011. He was born on May 7, 1929 in Watertown, Mass., moving to Albany, N.Y., with his family at the age of 8. John served as a Marine for two stints, one as a combat soldier during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged and began his long career in the construction industry which entailed being a journeyman and then builder of custom homes in New York. John moved to southern California at the age of 40 where he pursued his career in construction even further. He was the vice president and general manager of Pacific Builders, one of the largest home remodeling contractors in southern California, and went on to become president of Trans-National Builders, in which he was also a partner. In the mid '90s, he and his brother Ed started J&E Construction, specializing in home remodels and additions, and John continued his work as owner and general contractor with J&E up until June of this year. His favorite pastime was the game of golf, which he played often with his friends and colleagues. John is survived by his former wife Diane and their daughter Lisa, and, from his first marriage to Ann Futia of Albany, N.Y., daughters Diane, Judy, and her sons Michael and Cody, Debbie (Richard) Reggio and their daughters Christina and Victoria, and Kelly (Mario) Pennacchia and their children Gianna and Pauly. He is also survived by his brothers, Ed and Hank Murgia; and his sister, Sylvia Neary and his sister-in-law, Maureen. He was predeceased by his brother, Albert. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may call in the funeral home after 9 a.m. Interment will follow the service in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
