ALBANY - John P. Smith, 85, died on March 16, 2025, 65 years to the day that he met his wife of 48 years, Philomena R. Veneroso, (Philly). A lifelong Albanian, he grew up on Brookline Ave., and was the son of the late Edward and Ursula (Casey) Smith, the youngest brother of his five deceased siblings, Mary Rose CSJ, Anne Smith Maloy, Joseph, Edward and Ursula (Urtie) Smith McKegney. John was an incredible father to Joseph A. (Elena) Smith of Loudonville, N.Y., Mimi (Thomas) Terry of Bluffton, S.C., Timothy N. (Tarsha) Smith of Walpole, Mass., Edward J. (Nichole) Smith of Lincoln, R.I., and Margaret R. (Mark) Cassier of Greenfield, N.Y. John was the beloved "PaPa John" of 18 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, and was a beloved "Uncle John" to many nieces and nephews, all of whom he cared for deeply. The family extends its deepest gratitude to The Wesley in Saratoga Springs for their compassionate care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Church of St. Pius X, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Church, Thursday, from 11:00 a.m., to 1:00 p.m.
