COLONIE - John P. Verbo, 16, of Colonie, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Mass., after being stricken while playing in a volleyball tournament. He was born in Albany and was the beloved son of Michael and Yvonne Verbo. John is the cherished brother of Allen and Mark Verbo. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins and friends all of whom will forever remember his joyful spirit and boundless energy.
John was a Junior at Colonie Central High School, where he was known for his vibrant personality, a love for sports, and an infectious enthusiasm for life. Whether he was shooting hoops on the basketball court, spiking the ball on the volleyball team, or enjoying a game of pickleball with friends, John approached every game with passion and determination. His love for competition was matched only by his deep appreciation for music, always with his headphones on or strumming along to his favorite songs. His sense of humor, warm heart, and natural athleticism made him a friend to all who knew him.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning, at 9:00 a.m., at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with John's family on Friday, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
