Joseph Finn Obituary

ALBANY Joseph F. Finn Jr., 71, died peacefully Thursday, August 7, 2003 at Memorial Hospital with his beloved family present. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel King Finn. Mr. Finn was a graduate of both Vincentian Institute and Clarkson College, where he received his degree in civil engineering with honors. He later received his New York State Professional Engineers License. Mr. Finn resided in Loudonville, where he became vice president of Lange-Finn Construction Company which was incorporated in 1934, continuing a family business established 60 years prior. He went on to become CEO of the corporation. Some of the most memorable projects his family worked on in the Capital District include the St. Joseph's Provincial House, Menands Waste Water Treatment Plant, New York State Thruway Authority Building, Westgate Shopping Center, Philip Livingston School, Schoharie Creek Bridge replacement, Rt. 9W Suspension Bridge, the South Mall and St. James Church, Albany. He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Pius X Church and later became a Knight of Malta. He was a lifetime member of Wolferts Roost Country Club and former president of the club. He was a former member of the Fort Orange and University Clubs in Albany. Mr. Finn was a past board member of St. Peter's Hospital, Capital District Psychiatric Center and LaSalle School. He was a member of both the American Society for Professional Engineers and American Concrete Institute. He will be remembered by those closest to him for his deep love of family, life and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Kay Flint Finn; dear father of Victoria Finn of Albany, Thomas Finn (Cary) of Albany, Susan Van Galen (Theodore) of Clifton Park, Daniel Finn of Aspen, Colo. and Albany and the late Joseph Finn; cherished grandfather of Joseph and Samantha Finn, Teddy and Ryan Van Galen; brother of the late James W. Finn; brother-in-law of Betty Forbes Finn of Loudonville, Carl and Martha Flint of Moira, N.Y.; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to St. Catherine of Siena Church, Albany at 11:00 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Sunday, 4:00 to 7:00 in the funeral home. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Those wishing to remember Joseph and his family in a special way may send contributions to either St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211 or Albany Memorial Hospital, 600 Northern Blvd., Albany, NY 12204.

Mr Finn was a great Friend to the Irish!! My Dad George Nixon ALWAYS said that. My dad thought the world of him and his family. Be pround of your father he was a great man. He is with my dad in heaven, having great talks!!
