Joyce Cynthia White Cameron

Cameron, Joyce Cynthia White GLENMONT Joyce Cynthia White Cameron of Glenmont, died Monday, August 1 at home after a long illness. She was born October 12, 1935 in Quebec City, Canada, to the late Frank and Violet White. Joyce was predeceased by her brother, George White of Hudson, Quebec. A graduate of Glebe Collegiate Institute in Ottawa, Ontario, and McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Joyce was employed by the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at it's U.S. Embassy in Manhattan when she met and married Australian physician Cyril T. M. Cameron, M.D., a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is survived by their daughter, Cathi Anne Cameron of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, to Joyce and Cyril while he completed his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons there. Joyce and her family traveled widely while her husband taught and practiced surgery in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as in international waters as a ship's surgeon. One of her favorite trips included viewing African wildlife in their native habitat from the quiet of a hot air balloon drifting over the Masai Mara in Kenya. Joyce's talent for interior decoration and design was evident in the family's various homes. She came to the Capital District when her husband opened the emergency department for Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y., where he became one of the founding members of the American College of Emergency Physicians before his death in 1984. Joyce was employed as office manager for West Mall Office Plaza in Albany, and later by School Pictures in Glenmont, retiring in 1999. She was among the parents who helped found the Doane Stuart School's successful "Imagin-auction" fundraiser and later served on the board of Dowerskill Village in Glenmont, where she resided from 1985 until her death. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her niece, Tisha White Feghali of Quebec. Funeral arrangements are private at Joyce's request. In lieu of flowers or food, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or to Col. Potter's Cairn Rescue at cairnrescue.com, as she was a lifelong lover and owner of Cairn terriers and a strong supporter of animal rescue efforts The family wishes to thank members of the Community Hospice of Albany County for their help in her transition, and her friends and neighbors in Glenmontespecially Christine Wickman and her familyfor their ongoing support.
