Julian LeVine Obituary

LeVine, Julian W. PHILADELPHIA, Pa. Julian W. LeVine, 96, passed on October 9, 2020, at Hayes Manor in Philadelphia, Pa. He was the husband of his beloved wife, Marilyn Ann; the father of Deborah (Huff), Kenneth, John and Robert; and grandfather to 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. An Army Air Force veteran and Syracuse University graduate, he was hired as the physical education coach at Westmere Elementary and taught first through sixth grade gym class for thirty years until he retired in 1986 with a "Julian LeVine Day." Julian is remembered and touched the lives of three generations of Westmere students as "Coach." He was active in community affairs as a past president of the Kiwanis Club and the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad. He was a devout member of the Mcknownville United Methodist Church. Always very athletic, Julian loved camping, hiking, and sitting at McDonalds talking with friends. He is greatly missed by his family and friends for his wit and his caring way with all people. Services will be held in Albany in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation of any amount to the charity of your choice.

On behalf of the Hanrahan family, our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Coach LeVine. Growing up on Shady Lane was a joy because Coach was there for us, encouraging play and good sportmanship. Your parent's garage was a warm spot to wait for the school bus on those cold, rainy or snowy days. Seeing Coach once we got to Westmere Elementary was always special. He is remembered fondly by those who were privileged to be in his orbit. Rest in peace.

Coach Levine was my gym coach at Westmere and I would see him around town all the time. What a great guy who I always referred to as Coach. He coordinated a 4th grade overnight camping trip at the school before we moved up. He was such a great guy and I will never forget him. My deepest condolences for your loss.

I was in coach LeVine’s gym class at Westmere Elementary in the early 70’s...

He was terrific...one of my favorite teachers!

I’m glad he was blessed with a long life and a large family to share it with.

RIP COACH

Michael Leto - Michael Norkus when I was in Westmere Elementary.

I was so sorry to read about Coach LeVine. I lived across the street from him on Shady Lane from the day they moved in. One Sunday afternoon he showed me how to properly throw a football, must have been 1957. More recently, about 7 years ago, my wife and I would see him at Bruegger's Bagels at Stuyvesant Plaza. He was still doing pretty well. So very sorry.

He was such an amazing man, I truly adored him. I can remember walking to his house and having lunch dates and mowing and weed whacking the lawn. He was such a positive influence in my life. He will truly be missed. My condolences to the family. He earned those angel wings by all the lives he touched. Rest In Peace Coach, you will be greatly missed!!

Coach was the best. Enjoyed having coffee with him at Friendly's many mornings. Always had a smile and a joke for you. One of the kindest men I was lucky to call friend. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
