Katie Lynch Obituary

Lynch, Katie LINCOLN PARK, N.J. Katie Lynch, 31, died peacefully at home on October 26, 2009 surrounded by her loving parents, sister and fiance, after fighting leukemia with quiet strength and dignity for 14 months. Katie was born January 16, 1978 and lived in Ballston Spa until she was five, when her family moved to Clifton Park. Katie graduated as co-valedictorian of the Shenendehowa High School class of 1996. While at Shen, Katie was a member and co-captain of the girls swim team and was also a member of the cross country ski team. Katie attended Drew University in Madison, N.J. as a Drew Scholar. She majored in computer science, and minored in math and anthro. At Drew, Katie was a member of the swim team and captain for three years. She was on three relay teams which still hold school records. At Drew, Katie was vice president of Habitat for Humanity, spending many weekends working at sites in Newark and Paterson, as well as spending three spring breaks at sites around the country. Katie was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in 1999, and graduated summa cum laude from Drew in 2000. Following graduation, Katie accepted a job as a software developer at Ernst and Young, where she was employed until her death. Katie loved to read and travel, and was a gentle soul who touched many lives. She is survived by her loving parents, Charlie and Judy Lynch of Castleton; her beloved sister, Julia of Philadelphia; her steadfast fiance, Shashi Madugula of Whippany, N.J.; and many friends and relatives. A memorial gathering will be held at the family's convenience. Please do not send flowers, but honor Katie's life by joining the bone marrow registry and by donating blood. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to New Jersey Chapter, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 14 Commerce Dr., Suite 301, Cranford, NJ 07016 or the Leukemia Research Foundation, 3520 Lake Ave., Suite 202, Wilmette, IL 60091.

Judy, Charlie, Julia, and Shashi,
You have been in our thoughts and prayers continuously since Katie's passing. I had prayed so hard for a miracle but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Although there is some comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering, we can only imagine your sense of loss right now. We hope, with time, it will get easier for you.
It was a pleasure knowing Katie for the past 13 years. She was a great friend to Rebecca and always a pleasure to be around. "When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure." (author unkown) Katie's memory will always be a treasure to us.
Love and prayers,
Barbara and Ralph

It was a privilege and honor to have such a bright, humble and sweet person on my team at E&Y. She was in my prayers always during her illness. G_D chose to return one of his angels back to His place. May you be comforted in knowing how much her short stay impacted on so many people.

We were so saddened to hear of Katie's passing. We knew her as a vibrant and energetic young lady, who loved to swim, loved her school, loved her family and friends most of all. We are keeping you all in our prayers, and we hope you know she will not ever be forgotten by those who had the privilege to know her.

To All, Especially Judy and Charlie,

Mostly from afar, I watched Katie grow into a happy, accomplished, self-sufficient person. I was so happy to see her building a life with Shashi; happy, but not surprised that she was prized by all her colleagues, and loved by her friends.

Katie was a brilliant and delightful presence at Ernst & Young who had a deeper affect on us that she may have realized in her quiet humility. We miss her and offer our deepest condolences to her family.

Dear Charlie, Judy, Julia, and Shashi,
You so eloquantly and beautifully described Katie's life. She was an amazing friend and one of my only friends willing to travel 21 hours to Madagascar to visit me. I spent the last 8 of my 13 New Year's Eve with her. I will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please know how much her friends loved her and how lucky we feel to have had her in our lives! Peace be with you.
