Leo McCarthy Obituary

McCarthy, Leo WATERFORD Leo McCarthy, 72, of Saratoga Ave., Waterford, died Friday, March 28, 2008 at Samaritan Hospital, Troy embraced by his loving family. Born in Cohoes, N.Y., he was the son of the late Edward R. and Letitia A. Hogan McCarthy and beloved husband of Shirley H. Bull McCarthy of Waterford. Leo was a lifelong Capital District area resident and attended the Cohoes Catholic Schools. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served his country during the Korean Conflict. Leo was employed for many years as a sheet metal worker working out of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 83 in Albany. A very important part of Leo's life was his relationship with his family. He enjoyed being in their company and especially treasured the times he spent with his grandchildren and his great-grandson. In his pastime, he enjoyed woodworking. Leo was a member of the VFW in Waterford, American Legion E.T. Ruane Post 476 in Cohoes and the Knickerbocker Steamer Co. In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by his loving children, Amy Susan McCarthy, Tara L. Jacon and her husband Michael and Leo F. McCarthy, all of Waterford; cherished grandchildren, Katie Lynn and Kevin Leo McCarthy; adored great-grand-son, Landon Patrick Bova; sisters, Mary Jane V. Linen of Coco, Fla., Joan A. (Robert) O'Brien of Lansingburgh; brother, Joseph F. McCarthy of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Katherine Camera, Edward, John, Daniel and Donald McCarthy. Funeral from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock; Mass of Christian Burial from St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford at 9:30. Interment with military honors will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Monday from 4-8 p.m. Those wishing to remember Leo may make contributions in his memory to the Fisher House in care of the Stratton VA Medical Center, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12206.
