Lukera Kauta Obituary
WATERFORD - Lukera "Lucy" Kauta, 100, entered into Eternal Life, Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Collar City Nursing and Rehab, in Troy.
Born on August 26, 1923, in Ukraine, she immigrated to the United States in 1950, following the War. The family first lived in New York City and then settled in this area, in 1952. She was an extremely talented seamstress and worked for many years at Barclay's Home Products and the Troy District Shirt Co., in Cohoes, until her retirement.
The two guiding forces in Lucy's life were always her faith and her family. She was an active parishioner of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cohoes and belonged to Soyuz Ukrainok Women's Organization. She was known for her green thumb and took great pride in her garden. She canned and preserved everything she grew and cooked many Ukrainian delicacies.
Lukera was the loving wife of Gregory Kauta, who passed in 1993; and the beloved mother of Stephen Kauta of Waterford. She is also survived by her neighbor and dear friend, Craig Cheney.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, at 10:15 a.m., from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes, and at 11 a.m., in St. Peter & St. Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday, from 4-6 p.m. A Panakhyda service will be held at 6 p.m., in the funeral home.
Those wishing to remember Lukera in a special way may make contributions to St. Peter & St. Paul Church, 198 Ontario St., Cohoes, N.Y. 12047

Dear Steve,
Your Mom and my Grandmother Julia visited each other many years ago and would spend hours telling tales about their old Village back in the Ukraine. They were from the same Village and enjoyed each other's company---Good Memories are a Blessing.
May your Mom rest in peace and may her memory always be a special blessing for you.
