NEW LEBANON - Malcolm A. Larabee, 86, of New Lebanon, N.Y., passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, Mass.
Born in Pittsfield, Mass., on June 14, 1939, to the late Phyllis (Chittenden) and Arthur Larabee, Malcolm graduated from New Lebanon High School, and followed in his father's footsteps from a young age working for the family business, Larabee Fuel Company, Inc. After graduation, he attended pin-setting school in Chicago, and became certified by Brunswick to service the equipment at Lara-A-Bowl Lanes, another family enterprise.
He married Susan (Miller) Larabee on October 16, 1965, and was a devoted husband, partner and life companion. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary.
After the passing of his father at a young age, Malcolm continued to operate the fuel business, earning himself the trust and reliability that his customers came to know and depend on over the years. Malcolm was a skilled builder and could engineer and fabricate just about anything. If he couldn't find the right part, he'd simply make it. He earned several commendations from state officials after responding to a critical propane incident in town and used his knowledge and equipment to safely secure the scene.
Despite working long hours and spending quality time with family, he always made time to volunteer and give back to the community. Wherever help was needed, that's where he would be found. He was known for his generosity and compassion, and never hesitated to sponsor community sports or events. Malcolm was a lifetime member of the Lebanon Valley Protective Association.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Sena; and sisters, Marjorie Stall (husband Ralph) and Beverly Larabee (wife Jackie). He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Paul Miller (wife Darleen); his grandchildren; great-grandchildren (whose antics he loved to follow); several nieces and nephews, extended relatives, loyal employees, customers, and friends.
Malcolm was predeceased by his parents; his children, Matthew and Scott Larabee; and his siblings, Bruce Larabee and Brenda Samaniego.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m., on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, Stephentown. All are invited to visit with Malcolm's family for an hour before the service, starting at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers and in his memory, the family asks that you do something kind for a friend, neighbor, or perfect stranger.
