Margaret Keegan Obituary
CLAVERACK - December 28, 1937 – October 8, 2025
Margaret Mary Keegan, affectionately known as "Peg," passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025. She was 87 years old. Born in Troy, N.Y., Peg was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Wager.
Peg grew up in Troy, and was a proud graduate of Troy High School, where she enjoyed being a cheerleader and developed lifelong friendships. After marrying, she made her home in Claverack, N.Y., where she and her husband of 64 years raised their family and built a life rooted in community and care.
She worked for many years at the Greenport School, where her warmth and dedication touched the lives of countless students and colleagues. Outside of work, Peg was known for her love of gardening, her passion for reading, and her joy in traveling - especially her cherished annual trips to Rincon, Puerto Rico, and their various trips with the Greenport Senior Citizens.
An active member of the Claverack Republican Club, Peg especially enjoyed helping with the community's yearly Easter Egg Hunt and the Summer in the Park music series.
Peg is survived by her loving husband, James W. Keegan; her brother, James Wager; her children, Cheryl Keegan, Michael J. Keegan, and Jennifer White (Robert); her grandchildren, Justin Shook, Michael Shook (Erin Finch), and Caitlyn Mesick (Samuel); her great-grandson, Westley Mesick; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, October 14, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Bates & Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson, N.Y. A graveside prayer service will follow at 1:30 p.m., at the Dutch Reformed Church, in Claverack.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Peg's memory to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, 111 Humane Society Road, Hudson, N.Y. 12534.
Peg will be remembered for her generous and feisty spirit, loving heart, and the joy she brought to those around her. She will be deeply missed.
