Marion Waite Obituary

Waite, Marion K.
ALBANY - Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marion Kathleen Flanagan Waite, 95 of Albany, passed away peacefully at home on June 19, 2023.
Marion was born in 1928 in Queens to the late Michael A. and Kathleen Connolly Flanagan. Marion found her one love, Ronald E. Waite Jr., and was married in September 1950. The two shared 41 years of marriage and ten children before his passing in 1991. First and foremost, Marion was a dedicated and loving mother. As a busy mom to ten children, she made time to nurture a special relationship with each one.
Marion was a graduate of Cathedral Academy in Albany, and she worked as a telephone operator for Ma Bell before marriage. Later in life, she returned to the workforce as a switchboard operator with the New York State Senate. She retired in 1993 after 17 years of service.
Our mother loved to travel and spent time with family in many places around the world including Ireland and East Africa.
Marion was predeceased by her son, Kevin (Linda); daughter, Kathleen Waite-Commander (late Mark); her brothers, Michael P. Flanagan (late Lydia), Arthur T. Flanagan (Peggy), and Daniel J. Flanagan Sr. (Joyce); and her sisters, Eileen F. Renzi (late Frank), Joan A. Radler (late Bob), Ellen F. Catalano (late Vince), and Barbara Santiago (Paul). Marion will be dearly missed by her children: Christopher (Wendy), Deborah Shaffer (David), Dennis (Leslie), Ronald "JR" (Maggie), Pamela (Margi), Sean (Carole), Claudia McCoy (Mark), and Stephen (Ali); her siblings, Doris Barr (John), Thomas DePalma (Helene) and Kathleen F. Loerzel (late Lorenz); 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins both in America and Ireland.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Thursday, June 22, from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 23, at 9 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church - the South End Site, 88 Fourth Ave., Albany.
Contributions in Marion's name may be made to Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, P.O. Box 871847, Kansas City, MO, 64187.

Dear Pam and Margi
I am so sorry that I didn't read yesterday"s newspaper till this morning. I loved your Mom. She was the sweetest, Loving, kindest person with a little devil mixed in! I enjoyed listening to all her stories about the places she had been and where she was going next. I remember the last time we were together you had invited my Mom and me up to the lake and tour Mom's had quite the discussion on how to control the squirrel population!!
I know you will miss her but she couldn't have been loved more by her family and all that knew her. Sending Hugs to you both

Chris and Wendy, I still remember meeting Marion at your home one summer. She was a great conversationalist-- so interesting and interested in everything. I am sure she will be missed greatly.

My condolences to Marion´s family. I am proud to say I was a friend of Marion´s from the NYS Senate. Marion and the other operators were wonderful ladies. Worked hard and had a great time doing it. RIP Marion.

Pam and Marg. How lucky you were to have had such an amazing mother. What a legacy she leaves. I enjoyed visiting with her while doing her hair for many years. I loved that picture with the tiara . sincerely. Sandy Frey
