Mary Judge Obituary

Judge, Mary (Walsh) ALBANY Mary Walsh Judge, age 83, died on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, N.Y. Mary was born in Syracuse, N.Y. on May 15, 1928 to Mary Reilly Walsh and John Gaynor Walsh Sr. Both of Mary's parents were born and raised in Albany. Her father was a vice president at Southern Pacific Railroad and a former president of the Erie and Lackawanna Railroad. Mary grew up in various places across the U. S., including Cleveland, Ohio, South Egremont, Mass. and New York City. However, Mary's life always brought her back to Albany, where she graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart at Kenwood in 1946. In 1951, Mary married the love of her life, Dr Harry Mills Judge. A life-long Albanian, Harry introduced Mary to the joys of Martha's Vineyard. Mary and Harry honeymooned on the Vineyard and continued to vacation there throughout their 54 years of marriage. Mary and Harry also traveled to Alaska, across Canada, to Florida and to Ireland. Mary loved to cook and paint and was a superb needle artist, creating beautiful sweaters and gorgeous needlepoint pieces. She shared her work with all of her family and friends. Mary was a huge fan of Newfoundland dogs; she and Harry owned three of the large black pups over the years. Harry predeceased Mary in 2005. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by her parents; her brother John Gaynor Walsh Jr.; her son-in-law Danny Wong and her infant son Michael Walsh Judge. After 52 years of living on New Scotland Ave., Mary moved to The Avila in 2007, where she enjoyed the company of many of her friends from St. Teresa of Avila Parish. Mary was the beloved mother of Elaine Gatti Procopio and her husband, Joseph of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Diana Gatti Wong of Rochester, N.Y.; Kathleen Anne Carlton and her husband McDonald of Albany; Mary Cornelia Judge of Feura Bush, N.Y.; Harry Mills Judge Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Albany and Timothy Knower Judge and his wife Paula DeCola of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. She also leaves behind her cherished nephew John Gaynor Walsh III and his wife Debra; 11 wonderful grandchildren, Joseph, Michael and Peter Procopio and Diane Procopio Todd, Elaine Wong-Infantolino, Anne Marie, Daniel and Michael Wong, Ian McDonald Carlton, Samantha Emily DeCola-Judge and Allison Erin DeCola-Judge. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, Mary and Wilson Todd, Emma, Lydia and Joseph Procopio, Daniel Wong and Jade Elizabeth Infantolino, and Elizabeth Grace Carlton. Mary's family would like to thank their dear friend Ms. Veronica Washington for her love and kindness shown to Mary over the years. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Albany Regional Kidney Center, St. Peter's Hospital and the Community Hospice Inn for their compassion and care during the course of Mary's illness. My prayers and thoughts are with your family in this time of loss.I fondly remember your mom who taught me how to do needlepoint when I was a little girl and playing with the trains in the basement and being taught not to fear big dogs by your mom even though Keligh sat on me and took my cookies.Your mom is now walking hand in hand eternally with your dad.Your mom was a beautiful lady and will be forever missed.

Dear John and to all the Judge Family,

My prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time. I had the honor and privilege to get to know Mrs. Judge during my years at NABA but especially in the past 5 1/2 years. She shared with me some time, thoughts, and memories that made a great impression on me.

She was very proud of the Dr. Harry M. Judge Vision Rehabilitation Center and it was so sweet when she would call me to tell me when she was planning on driving by.

Goodbye Mrs. Judge, rest in peace and say hi to Dr. Judge for me.

You will always be remembered and missed.

My family lived on So. Main Ave. My parents and aunt and uncle were very close friends of the Judges. We enjoyed watching Dr. Judge walk their dog in the evenings (Keely). They have a wonderful family. Mrs. Judge was a very classy lady in every way.

Mrs. Judge was a guidon for me through my teen years and early 20's helping through some tough times. Recently was back in contact with her after a 30 year absence and now again have lost a mentor and sounding board. Mary, was one of the finest women I had ever known as a teen and as an adult..You will truly be missed...God Bless the Judge Children and know you do not grieve alone...

To the Judge family,

"Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart
For as long as there is memory
They'll live on in the heart"

My thoughts and prayers are with you,

I applaud the bravery my mother showed in her decision to stop dialysis. I also applaud the exceptional care she received at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. The staff there, in the emergency room and in the hospital in general provided extraordinary care for her in her many trips over the last four months of her like. Rest in peace mom.
