Phibbs, Mary Ann
ALBANY - Mary Ann Phibbs, 89, entered Eternal Life, Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Schenectady on June 27, 1936 in her family home, she was the daughter of the late John Xavier and Agnes Smith Phibbs.
She leaves behind her wife of 45 years, Marilyn MacBride; and beloved nieces, Kathleen Phibbs Brown, of Scotia, N.Y., and Elizabeth Phibbs Roff (Edward), of Stony Point, N.Y.
Mary Ann graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in Schenectady, N.Y. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from The College of Saint Rose while working full time. She was employed by the Department of Motor Vehicles for over 40 years. Mary Ann started in the steno pool, and worked her way up to the Manager of Personnel.
Mary Ann was an avid golfer, and was the first woman to achieve a hole-in-one at the Stadium Golf Course. She was the club champion twice at the Stadium Country Club, and won Member Guest Tournaments at other golf clubs.
Mary Ann served as an Albany County Master Gardener Volunteer for 20 years, and earned an Emeritus Status. She answered gardening questions for the public, helped maintain gardens, and participated in Garden Education Day for many years. She also maintained beautiful gardens at home.
She served as a volunteer and vice president of Our Brothers Keepers, to raise money for organizations that supported AIDS victims.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mary Ann's family, Monday, November 24, 2025, 3 to 6 p.m., at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany, N.Y. 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only.
Funeral services, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at The Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St. (Rev. Kenneth J. Doyle Way), Albany, N.Y. 12208, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, N.Y., immediately following the Mass.
