Mary Snyder Obituary

Snyder, Mary Jane CLIFTON PARK Mary Jane (Marshall) Snyder passed away on January 17, 2014 at her residence after a courageous battle with a long illness. Born in Rensselaer, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Edna Marshall. She is survived by her loving husband, S. Louis Snyder of Clifton Park. Mary Jane loved her children, Lynn Cary and Kenneth (Judith) Snyder, both of Ballston Spa, and Sandra Lou (Matthew) Ostiguy of East Greenbush. She cherished her grandchildren, Victoria Cary, Amanda Snyder and Brandon, Ryan and Rachel Ostiguy. Mary Jane is survived by her sister Eleanor DeJulio of Rensselaer; sisters-in-law, Marion Marshall of Valatie and Patricia Snyder of Albany; a brother-in-law, Robert (Marsha) of Syracuse, and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by brothers, Charles Marshall and Joseph Marshall. Mary Jane worked in the Montgomery Ward catalog department in Menands for 18 years, holding many positions before becoming a merchandiser. Following her employment at Montgomery Ward, she was a stay-at-home mom for 13 years. She then began her career as a senior real estate agent with Realty U.S.A. where she worked 15 years before retiring in 1996. Her successes during her career were numerous including multiple sales awards as a realtor. Mary Jane was very committed to her community. She was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts and supported the Shenendehowa school district by assisting with budget voting, school activities and working in the library. Mary Jane was a charter member, historian and past president (1978-1979) of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary 2466 in Clifton Park. She was also a charter member and treasurer of the Red Hat Society "Ripe Tomatoes" in Clifton Park and a member of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park. In addition to her community activity, Mary Jane had many passions and interests. She was a member of the Clifton Knolls Gems bowling league and she loved casinos, gardening, aerobics, skating, cross-country skiing, the ocean, photographs, discussing politics, and snowmobiling. She loved to talk and treasured her friendships. She enjoyed many years of boating, and life at the family camp in Bolton Landing, Lake George. Mary Jane also loved traveling and cruising around the world with her husband and family, including many memorable trips to South America, Africa, Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, and China. Mary Jane's true passion and commitment was to her family and husband. One of the many gifts Mary Jane bestowed upon her children and grandchildren was the significance of celebrating birthdays and holidays together and emphasizing the true importance of family. She expressed her love in so many ways, especially to her grandchildren through words of encouragement and guidance, cheering them at sporting events and loving them unconditionally. She was so proud of them. Mary Jane touched so many lives with her compassion, kindness and genuine caring. We will forever be grateful and blessed for the love, praise and devotion she gave us. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church at 971 Route 146 in Clifton Park. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home at 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens in Colonie. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation 230 East Ohio St., Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611. Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home.
