Michael Cooley Obituary

Cooley, Michael
NEW YORK CITY - Michael Cooley passed away after a brief illness on October 27, 2024. He was 68 years old. Mike was born in Cohoes to the late Joseph A. and Dorothy (Reed) Cooley. Mike is survived by his daughter, Lauren Cooley (NYC) and his life partner, Lorraine Bell (Iselin, N.J.).
Mike was educated in Cohoes Catholic schools and Keveny Memorial Academy. He received a Civil Engineering degree from SUNY Buffalo. Mike worked for NYS DEC in Buffalo, and for many years at LIRR then Amtrak in NYC.
Mike was predeceased by his former wife, Iris Berman; son, Samuel Cooley; and brother, George Cooley. He also leaves behind his sister Mary Cooley, Cohoes N.Y. and brothers Joe (Mattie), Trenton N.J., Terry (Marcia), Burlington, Mass., Paul, Belmont Mass., and Bob (Robin), Delmar, N.Y. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Mike sincerely cared about people and was always interested in what they had to say. He loved to learn and travel. He had a genuinely sincere spirit and an easy and often sly smile. With Mike, there was no need to impress. He was simply a likable guy who supported and loved his family and friends deeply. He was a loyal and caring brother, father and partner to Lorraine. There was no need for Mike to be loud. He preferred expressing himself in his own calm, easy going manner and people were instantly comfortable with him. He enjoyed travel with his daughter, Lauren, and several times to Ireland with his brother Paul and Lorraine. Mike was planning retirement soon and was in the process of moving to N.J. to be with Lorraine.
We will carry his memory and love of life with us forever as he was taken from us way too soon.
A memorial service was held at Andrett Funeral Home in N.Y.

My husband and I went to Keveny with Mike. He was such a kind sweet easy-going person who cared about everyone. Always had a positive time around Mike. We missed him at our 50th reunion in September but heard he was in Ireland. He will always be with us in spirit.
