I´m very saddened to hear of Mitch´s passing. I´m not sure how many years we worked together at the APA, but it was always interesting discussing shared projects, chuckling at the fake surveillance camera in his office, checking out the orchids and Venus flytraps, and partaking of the various snacks he would bring from Albany for all of us to share. He kept work interesting and I knew if he was working on my project I´d get the right answers. When my mom spent a long period at St. Peter´s, Mitch kindly shared his phone number in case I needed something while staying in the area. He was a nice man. So sorry for your loss.

I have so many fun memories of time spent with Mitchell and Jane. In my office I keep pinned on the wall some of the mails received from Mitchell. His sense of humor was unrivaled and so special: he sent me letters posing as this Italian politician (that I greatly disliked), thanking me for spreading his words even oversea...My 1st reaction was to burn the envelope, then I laughed so hard when I noticed it was sent from Chestnut Street. I will miss your smart jokes, Mitchell. Thank you for sharing your experience & reassuring me in a moment when I really needed support. Thank you for all the oysters & the bubbles: we will keep discovering new restaurants with Jane and we will make sure the cesar salad will be served with anchovies. RIP, you were one of a kind, and hard to forget.

Mitchell tended to be quiet during dinner parties, but if you were lucky enough to sit next to him and pepper him with questions, you would get a deluge of funny quips, silly responses and ingenious takes, not only on the work he does, things he enjoys, but also on current events. My immediate sense was I was talking with a man whose mind is living on another level of consciousness. Though he is always reticent to speak, once he gets going he just starts showering these conceptual gems on you and you feel so lucky to share in the moment. I was lucky enough to spend time with Mitchell for the last 15 odd years either at The Oyster Bar, a beautiful restaurant, the race track or a dinner party. At every meeting he was ready with a funny take and we always had a laugh. Love you Mitchell. Looking forward to laughing with you on the other side.

I was an attorney for an environmental group on the same hearing on the "frankenpine" as Mitch who represented the APA.
I always found Mitch to be honest and straightforward.
No more so than after this hearing, when Mitch wrote in his brief that the applicant had mislead the APA and the application should outright be denied on that basis.
He almost lost his job, because there was great political pressure to approve the project, but won my great respect.
A good man.

Dear Jane, We could not have asked for better neighbors than you and Mitch. Leaving Chestnut Street in Albany was toughest because we loved our neighbors and enjoyed their presence. May Mitch's memory be for a blessing. And may you receive all the strength necessary.
