Muriel Heide Obituary

ALBANY Muriel Claire Heide, RSCJ, in her 89 year, died at Kenwood Convent of the Sacred Heart on Sunday, May 22, 2005. Born in New York, N.Y., June 4, 1916, Sister was the fourth of nine children born to Herman L. and Gertrude Amend Heide. She entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in Albany in September, 1935, making her final vows at Kenwood in 1944. Sr. Heide taught in Schools of the Sacred Heart in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. She was a woman with a loving, generous, courageous spirit opened to adventure which enhanced her gifts as a teacher. In 1964, Sr. Heide's ministry expanded to Lima, Peru where she taught at the Instituto Pedagoico Nacional de Mujers, preparing young women for a teaching certificate in English. Eight years later, she returned to the U.S., teaching ESL classes, first at Kenwood and then in Boston. A new vista opened in 1982, when she traveled to Soeul, Korea, where for two years she taught Freshman English at Songsim College for Women. Upon her return to the U.S., she continued her ESL work in New York City until 1994 when she retired at Kenwood Convent in Albany. Sr. Heide is survived by three sisters, Ruth Kane of Glen Cove, N.Y., Constance Sullivan of Rumson, N.J. and Anne Quigley of Geneva, N.Y.; a brother, Rev. Edward Heide (Padre Pablo) of Azul, Argentina and many devoted nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. A Vigil will be held at 4:30 on Wednesday, May 25 in the Kenwood Convent Chapel and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the convent. Interment in the Kenwood Convent Cemetery.
