Nicholas Criscone Obituary

Criscone, Nicholas
GLENVILLE - Nicholas Joseph Criscone, 50, a beloved educator, leader, son, husband, father, brother and friend to all, tragically passed away on July 20, 2024. Nick's journey on this earth was one marked by love and an unwavering commitment to enriching the lives of others. There is now a void that can never be filled, but his spirit continues to inspire and guide us.
Born on August 15, 1973, to his parents, Henry and Mary (Pequinot) Criscone. Nick was a 1992 graduate of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School, where his childhood friends lasted a lifetime. Nick's passion for helping others led him to earn his bachelor's degree at the University of Albany; he continued at St. Rose College for his master's degree, laying the foundation for a remarkable career that would positively impact the lives of countless children.
As a teacher in the Albany School District and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Nick brought enthusiasm to the classroom. His appreciation for education blossomed further as he stepped into the role of principal at Mayfield Elementary School, and later, at Glen-Worden Elementary in Scotia-Glenville. In these halls, he was more than an administrator; he was a friend, a mentor, and a source of endless fun and learning for his students. His involvement with the Parent Teacher Association and various administrative groups showcased his dedication to the betterment of the schools and the future of every child he encountered.
But beyond his professional achievements, Nick's heart belonged to his family. He was the cornerstone of his family and the family he was married into. He was the devoted husband to his wife, Lisa; and a proud father to his three children, Austin, Alexandra, and Cosimo. He brought great joy to family gatherings and vacations.
Nick and Lisa shared a beautiful partnership filled with adventures and a mutual love for the great outdoors. Together, they traversed the country, from the majestic Adirondacks to the stunning landscapes of Hawaii, always in search of the next peak to conquer. Their passion for hiking, camping, and backpacking was often enjoyed listening to Dave Matthews, and with the companionship of their beloved dog, Maizey.
To say that Nick was loved by everyone is an understatement. His heart of gold and infinite patience made him a natural at working with children. Nick approached life with the belief that every moment was an opportunity to make a positive difference, and he did so with a smile that could light up any room.
As we remember Nicholas Joseph Criscone, let us honor his memory by living as he did - with optimism, kindness, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every person to achieve greatness. Nick's spirit is a guiding light, urging us to find the adventure in every day, to cherish our loved ones, and to make the world a better place, just as he did.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Criscone; cherished children, Austin Nicholas Criscone, Alexandra Rose Criscone, and Cosimo Joseph Criscone; parents, Henry and Mary Criscone; siblings, who are his best friends, Gina (Jeremy Redmond) Criscone and Rocco (Kate) Criscone; many adored in-laws, nieces and nephews; and countless friends and students, whom he positively impacted. His legacy lives on.
Calling hours will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., on Friday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Celebration of Nick's life will follow at the Church of Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga, in Glenville, at 1 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Scotia-Glenville CSD, ATTN: Susan M. Swartz, 900 Preddice Parkway Scotia, N.Y. 12302; memo: Odyssey of the Mind or Science Fair. Online condolences may be made to glenvillefuneralhome.com

Henry, Mary and family.
I have relatives whose children attend Glen Worden Elementary School and were shocked by the sudden death of their popular Principal. I did not realize that he was your son. I saw the notice in the Cardinal McCloskey Alumni website. What a brilliant career he had in education. He has set an example for others to follow. My condolences and prayers to all. Both of you take care of yourselves and your family. May your son Nick rest in peace.

As we all struggle with the enormity of grief, let us be thankful to the Criscone family for giving us the gift of Nick. I am reminded of Herb Brooks's speech that said "You can't be common. Common men go nowhere. You have to be uncommon." Nicholas Criscone was an uncommon man.

To the family of Mr. Criscone, words cannot express the deep sadness felt by Annie and I. You were Annie's principal her entire time at Mayfield Elementary school. I had the privilege of meeting with you on several occasions for parenting advice. I realized what a kind and genuinely caring man you were. My daughter Annie thought the world of you and is deeply saddened by your passing as am I. We are both so very lucky and privileged to have known you. May God hold your family in his arms to comfort them and give them the strength to carry on your legacy. God's speed Mr. Criscone. Mary and Annie Nichols.

I am speaking on behalf of Nicks fraternity brothers as we all grieve. No matter how amazing of a person Nick was, words can never capture his greatness as a human being. We all go back 30 years, and as time flies, lives change, friends move distances, especially concerning college, but the bond we all had with Nick never faltered after all these years. Whenever he is discussed, and I´m talking about going back all these years before this horrendous tragedy took place, the true sincerity of the fondness we all have of him is always felt. What an amazing man. Our hearts go out to his entire family and to the community in which he will always be missed.

I had honor of meeting Nick a couple of times at Glen Worden. I am a parent of a teacher (David Lippiello) who taught at Glen Worden. It was instant to realize how much loved Nick was and always will be. He was a major contributor to children´s growth through his caring ways.

I feel a little bad that I didn´t know you back when we were kids. I judged books by the cover and sometimes my mind made up the cover. I didn´t dislike you, I just avoided you. I feel that I missed out on what made you, you. You never did anything to me. You were fearless and I was full of fear. It´s not an excuse but more of an explanation. I think deep down I wanted to be that person you were but didn´t have the courage. Two years ago I told you the story and you reacted perfectly by inviting me in because I was ready. It was only two years but the relief felt like a lifetime and I´m better because of it. You didn´t just teach kids but adults as well. This adult is wiser because of you and I´m forever grateful. You made me a Brother that day. I Love you like one but not because you´re gone but because you were there.
