Patricia Pafundi Obituary

Pafundi, Patricia (Malone)
GRAFTON - Patricia (Malone) Pafundi, 73, entered peacefully into eternal life surrounded by the love of her family on January 23, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Troy on July 20, 1949, to her late parents, Vincent P. Malone and Mary E. (Shay) Malone. Patricia was raised in Troy and was a longtime resident of Grafton. She was a graduate of C.C.H.S. and Albany College of Pharmacy Health Sciences. She worked in various pharmacies throughout the Capital Region and for many years at the State of New York as a pharmacist.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Nicholas "Skip" Pafundi; four children, Jesse Pafundi, Jeremy Pafundi, Danielle (Brad) Kent, and Michelle (Colin) Mason; and six grandchildren, Maggie, Addison, Brennan, Griffin, Nolan and Miles. She was the loving sister of Peggy Minarski, Susan (David) Kile, and Michael (Marcia) Malone. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Shemels, and brother-in-law, Joseph Minarski. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews who she cherished.
Patricia was a lifelong learner and avid reader. She was passionate about politics, her local public library and science. She enjoyed sitting on the deck of her Cranberry Pond home, working in the garden, and watching the moon rise in the evening. Patricia looked forward to spending summers at SPAC listening to the symphony and orchestra. The beaches of Cape May, N.J. where she spent time in the summer with her extended family held a special place in her heart. Above all, she loved spending time with her family on any occasion.
Patricia had a very strong faith and a generous soul. She was abundantly kind and made deep connections with many people throughout her life.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her life at a funeral Mass on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine's Church, 25 115th St., Troy.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Patricia in a special way may send donations to the Grafton Public Library or Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

The best characterization I may offer about Patty is simple. She aspired and was close to being the best human being, wife, and mother, I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She offered her knowledge and skills for only The Good. Without hesitation, she leaves a gap that can never be filled. Harvey Brody

My heart goes out to the entire Pafundi family. Patti no longer has pain and is safe in heaven now. I knew Patti many years ago. Someone had the idea to have "Wednesday play" which was Mothers bringing their kids to learn to share and have lunch together at alternate homes. Then everyone would go home at nap time (especially the mothers needed a nap!) Patti Pafundi, Cathie Allain, Chris Beckstein, Marie Carroll and I joined together as much for the mothers as for the children. As our families grew we had, 4 Pafundi's, 4 Sausville's, 3 Allain's, 2 Beckstein's, and 2 Carroll's. Those were some of the best days of my life!
Later after the kids were older Patti wanted to make bread and butter pickles that I made from my mother in laws recipe. Patti, Betty Jones and I made pickles using up all her propane and had to finish them on their gas grill laughing all day long. It was so much fun we decided to make Christmas cookies together to give as gifts for friends.
Regretfully I didn't see Patti for many years because I now live in Amsterdam but those memories will always be with me. I am making a donation in Patti's name to the Grafton Public Library where our children enjoyed many library story hours.

To Skip and family,
I just met Patti last summer, and although we only had a few visits, I thoroughly enjoyed our talks. She was very smart, funny and loved to talk about her family, who she was so proud of. I wish I had the chance to know her better. May your memories live on in your hearts and help you through this difficult time.

One of the many bonuses of Danielle marrying Brad was that we all had the privilege of getting to know the Pafundi family and the gift of their friendship. Patti was a wonderful woman, always ready with a kind word, interesting story or simply an ear to listen. She always asked after your family or concerns from conversations in the past. She loved to laugh and LOVED her family, especially her grandchildren. Thank you Skip and the Pufundi family for sharing Patti with us... I am grateful I had the opportunity to share a few precious memories with you all. Patti, you are already missed..

If you're lucky enough to have known Patti, you know what a wonderful woman she was in so many ways. She was the most loving and giving human being I have ever been around. Family was everything to her; and her love sustained us all through the many highs and lows of all our lives. She was always there whenever you needed her and stayed strong throughout her life demonstrating what true love and friendship is all about. Patti was so committed to making this world a better place through her life-long activism, even when she was privately suffering from her illnesses. Skip has been my friend for almost 60 years, and has been at her side throughout everything. They raised amazing and loving children together, all of whom inherited the compassion and goodness they got from their parents. Gail and I and our sons were honored to have had the opportunity to share a
large part of our lives with this family, and I know her legacy is now being passed down to her beloved grandchildren who she adored. My memories of Patti will sustain me as I hope they will for the family also. I've come to realize that a person is not really "gone" if you continue to keep them in your heart and mind. To Skip, Jesse, Jeremy, Danielle, Michelle and all the grandchildren I hope this offers some solace at this difficult time. We will always love Patti and know she was a force for good all her life. She was one of a kind and made this world a little better by the way she lived her life. What better memories can anyone have. All our love forever.

Whenever I remember Pat, it will be with much laughter. Many years ago when she lived above the bar in Albany we spent a lot of time together and I can´t remember anyone I laughed with as much. To her children and Sue, Mickie and Katherine I´m sorry for your loss! Much love!

Pat was truly one of my absolute favorite residents in my almost 10 year career at the Manor. I will miss our mornings singing along to Sinatra, her sweet smile, her laugh, her sassy attitude, her humor, and those outstretched arms always ready to give me a hug at the start of a shift and before she went to bed at night.
Every nurse has at least one patient in their career who they bond so closely with that they view them as family. Pat was and forever will be one of "MY babies." I am grateful to have had the privilege to care for such an amazing woman and I am going to miss her SOOO much.

Jen, Jackie, and family...... my deepest sympathy and hearfelt condolences to all of you during this difficult time.
