Philip Gongoleski Obituary

Gongoleski, Philip
WILTON - Philip Gongoleski, 77, a longtime resident of Wilton, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on June 20, 1947, in Troy, N.Y., Phil was the cherished son of the late Victor and Agnes (Wolanska) Gongoleski.
At a young age Phil became disabled and was wheelchair bound for many years. Despite his disability he lived life to the fullest inspiring others.
Phil graduated from Tamarac High School, then from Hudson Valley Community College and Siena College receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing.
Phil started his career at the New Your State Department of Taxation and Finance. He then transferred to the New York State Department of Civil Services holding several positions prior to retiring as a Senior Classification and Compensation Analyst.
While working at Civil Service Phil met his future wife, Anne. They wed on May 18, 1985, and enjoyed 39 wonderful years together. Their love of dogs brought Murphy, Hershey and now Finn into their home. Over the years Phil and Anne enjoyed many trips to Cape Cod, where they had spent their honeymoon.
Phil found joy in listening to music, playing guitar, capturing gorgeous pictures of birds at his feeders, attending the Giants games and most importantly long conversations with his wide network of friends.
Phil leaves behind his devoted wife, Anne Gongoleski; his brother, Dennis Gongoleski (Kathy); his brother-in-law, John Baldasaro (Bonnie); his sister-in-law, Joan Haney (Chris) and his niece, Wendy Gaughan (Tom). He will also be greatly missed by numerous cousins, friends, and all that the pleasure of knowing him. He is preceded in death by his nephew, Conor.
The family is thankful for the dedicated care provided by his home aides, Becky and Christina over the recent years. We also thank the staff at Wesley Health Care Center, and the doctors and nurses at Saratoga Hospital, especially those in the ICU during his final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 12:00 noon at St. Clements Church, 231 Lake Ave, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave., Saratoga Springs, prior to the Mass service at the church.
Following the Mass, Phil will be laid to rest in St. Peter's Cemetery, 150 West Ave., Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866.
In lieu of flowers, make a donation to a charity of your choice.

I was nervous about meeting my new brother in law in 1988 but within minutes he made me feel so comfortable that wheelchair disappeared and he was just Phil. He was an amazing, kind, caring person and this world is empty without him. I'm going to miss him dearly.

This world built two, though now it seems unfair one half was taken from the brothers we were. I love you Phil and can't imagine not hearing your voice again. You made me a better person by your example and I was deeply proud you were my brother. Knowing your pain is no more comforts me in this time of sorrow. Romans 8:18 "Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later."
