R. Mihran Mooradian

1931 - 2021

Mooradian, R. Mihran BRUNSWICK R. Mihran Mooradian, an upstanding local businessman who was most fulfilled when surrounded by his large and loving family, died in Cohoes on July 12, 2021, at 89, with family by his side. A resident of Brunswick Hills for more than 60 years, Mihran was born in Troy in 1931 to the late Alice V. Toomajian and Mihran Mooradian. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Ovsanna Yahnian Mooradian; his children, Susan of Delmar, Robert of Needham, Mass., Linda Della Volpe (John) of Concord, Mass., and David (Tara) of Troy; grandchildren, Andrew, Alexandra, Emma Della Volpe, and Julia, David Jr., and Ana Mooradian; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Lucille Quinn; and his brothers, M. Richard Mooradian and M. Edward Mooradian. Mihran graduated from Troy High School in 1949; he was class president and organized a class reunion one year after graduation, and every five years since. He earned his bachelor's degree from Lafayette College (honors in history) and his master's degree in history and international relations from Clark University, where he was a Clark Scholar. While at Clark, Mihran met and fell in love with Ovsanna, an international student from Beirut, Lebanon, who he would marry one week after graduation in 1958. Upon returning to Troy, Mihran entered the family business with his brothers, later welcoming his son, David and nephew, Bill into the company. Together, they operated Mooradian's Furniture stores in Cohoes, Troy, Watervliet, and later Albany. In retirement, Mihran enjoyed the company of the ROBs most Friday mornings at the Country Club of Troy; trimming fruit trees in his beautiful yard; and making shish on the grill for family gatherings. With his wife, Mihran enjoyed following politics and current affairs. They traveled extensively, including throughout much of Europe, the Middle East, and his beloved Armenia. Mihran was an active member and Parish Council chairman of Saint Peter Armenian Church in Watervliet where he served two four-year terms, first in the 1970s and again in the 1990s. He served as president of the Cohoes Rotary Club, the Cohoes Commerce and Industry Association, and the Cohoes Community Center. He served as board member for the Rensselaer County Historical Society, the Sunnyside Center, Elmwood Hill Cemetery Association, the Cohoes Memorial Hospital, Eddy Cohoes Geriatric Center, the Eddy, and the Country Club of Troy. The Mooradian family would like to express our gratitude to the dedicated team of caregivers at the Eddy Village Green at Cohoes for treating Mihran like family for the last two years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Visiting hours will be held at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Ave., Troy, on Thursday, July 15, from 4-7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral services will be conducted in St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church, 100 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet on Friday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
