Richard David Obituary

David, Richard
TROY - Everyone dies, not everyone truly lives. On July 28, 2023, with friends and family by his side, Richard David, 76 of Troy, entered the great beyond.
While Rich may have started out in less-than-ideal surroundings, he didn't dwell on things he couldn't change and after experiencing a renaissance in the early 90's, he decided to just live his best life. Rich was an independent thinker and lived an incredibly unapologetic and fervent life. He wasn't afraid to take chances or make mistakes because he loved the journey as much as he loved the destination.
Our beloved friend was a fixture of Troy and more than likely, you donated a can or two to him or had him do an odd job around your home or yard. Rich enjoyed volunteering some of his time at Honest Weight Food Co-op, Troy Community Garden, CEO food pantry, Fallon Rainbow Center, Burden Ironworks Museum, Unity House, The First Presbyterian Church of Troy, and Meals on Wheels, to name a few. Rich enjoyed a host of hobbies including, horseback riding, camping, white water rafting, landscaping and lawncare. Rich's first love was collecting, he had a creative eye and was able find a purpose for and see value in things most other people could not.
Rich was a very vital member of the Arc of Rensselaer County family for over 30 years. The impact Rich had on the lives of people he came in contact with was monumental; so too, is the void created by his absence. The joy, love and laughter he shared created memories to keep warm the hearts of all of those that were fortunate to experience him.
The funeral service for Richard will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Wm Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third St., Troy, with Deacon Charles Wojton officiating. Friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home, Friday, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Interment, Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.

Richard I have known since the late 70´s. At that time he lived on Florence Place, by my home. Always willing to help and keep the Neighborhood clean. He stopped by at my Business often, when he lived in 7th Ave. He all loved Richard. He was a kind Man, Heaven is getting a good Man. Adios for a while Richard.

He made me a birdhouse that I treasure. It created a haven for generations of Bluebirds in my backyard. Like his presence here on earth, it continues to give happiness. There was always a smile to be shared, and time to say "hello". His was a spirit that will live on in many happy memories shared with all those he encountered. I pray he smiles down on us as we continue to be more like him in our day to day lives. Blessings

Richard was a regular at my office, picking up bottles and cans. A gentle soul you couldn't help but like. No matter the weather, there he would be with his cart full of bottles. He had little, but he was still happy. Your journey enters a new phase, Richard. Peace be with you!

Rich where do I even begin... you were so much fun easy going and one of the most friendly people. You were always ready to help or give someone a hand. You loved your coffee spending your money your way, getting out to visit the people and places that were important to you. You will never know the magnitude of the impact that you had on others lives you touched. If you weren't around people always wanted to know where you were or how you were doing. Of course you had your way of dealing with things but hey that's part of what made you! You are going to be missed so much but I will cherish all of our times together. I'm so glad I was able to be a part of your life. I hope you are up there with Ernest Brown and all of your other friends you would often tell me you missed. Until we meet again RichieRIP Love you Bethany

Richard had a few meals in our backyard yard over the years. He was always so kind to our son. Always brought something over that he thought he may like. Very sad to hear the news he passed. He was a gentle soul with a kind heart. He will be missed in the community.
