Bob was a giant and the last to be in the business of music retail- the industry of human happiness. I was less than a year out of college and we were setting up his big " nightmare", the Short Hills, NJ store, after having taught for a bit and then selling insurance, I asked him," Who orders your classical music?" He said," Are you kidding me?" I said that outside of cities, this area sells it. It's demographics. The fine arts are big her- look at what Sam Goody's does down the road." He smiled and handed me the classical catalogues for the majority of the labels that sold this genre and said "Here!" Then he notified his right hand man at that time , Dick Vincent , and it slowly solidified. We achieved maybe 30 percent of all music sales in classical music there by the time my associate, Don Bergenty took over management of that store. Steve Kaplan, the orignal manager of the store when it opened used to laugh that" I've got an employee here who has a Rostropovich record in one hand and an Iggy Pop record in the other! He must be onto something or is totally out there!
This wouldn't happen anywhere else on earth! I promise you that all of this is true and wouldn't have happened anywhere else if it weren't on Bob's dime. He had those kind of smarts!! God bless you, Bob! You kept the spirit of music alive and knew how to profit and give a bunch of us the freedom to help it work for you! God be good to you and your family!! Roy Root

Anne and family: I just learned of Bob's passing. I am so saddened and so sorry for your loss. His passing is also everyone's loss. I saw Bob biweekly for 16 years at Jean Paul Spa for his manicure and pedicure services. He was truly a great man. He was kind to everyone who worked at the spa. I remember his stories of anonymous donations to people in need who he didn't even know. Bob will be missed wholeheartedly by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Anne and family,
I am so terribly sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I just learned of it today. I served, with and for Bob, as a board member for a number of years and have to say that in addition to his business leadership, Bob was one of the kindest gentleman I have ever known. He was a class act in every regard and I am honored to have known and learned from him. My deepest sympathies to the entire Higgins' family.

Dear Mark and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Our time together in business was "simply the best". He built a legacy that is more than the stores, it is all of the lives he has touched. To Anne and Family,
I was so sorry to hear of Bob's passing...I can remember first meeting Bob when he lived on Hawk St and both of us attended Albany High School...We always hung with the same crowd...Over the years, Bob had given me many a contracting projects..
I would run into him occasionally from time to time, he would always ask how things were going...
I remember riding in that '55 or '56 Olds - WoW that car was so fast...he could sure scare the hell out of me....Always Cool...
I will miss him...May God Bless you Bob

Bob was a classmate of mine at AHS. We didn't stay in touch much after graduation. However, at one of our reunion gatherings, we connected. I was in the construction remodeling business in Michigan. Bob was planning to install a record shop in Rochester Hills, MI. He was kind enough to give me the contract for the installation. I have fond memories of Bob. He was a true gentleman and, like myself, a self made success without a college degree. May he Rest In Peace.

Anne,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Bob's legacy will live on, not only through his philanthropic works but through many of his employees who learned more about business from Bob the any business school. I would not be as successful in business as I've been had I not learned from Bob. He'll be missed.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I truly enjoyed working for him - he was a kind man who valued hard work and honesty and demanded both. And he never failed to say thank you. He took the time on my last day at TWE to meet with me and express his gratitude and wish me well. That meant a lot to me. thanks, Bob, for everything.

Dear Mark, Anne and all family,
I met bob in late 70's through jack miron. Bob purchased my 1986 tricentennial commemorative portrait and we never stopped being in touch. I photographed countless events ever since for transworld till last fall when I was hospitalized sadly. This news is especially hard since I survived and Bob did not. Much love and admiration for him and the entire family included extended. Monumental loss for us all.

I worked in one of the Record Town (and later FYE) stores for over 9 years. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Higgins, but his son did visit our store once.
I learned a tremendous amount about music and movies, the management of a business, and made some tremendous friendships and memories.
Thank you, Mr. Higgins for that and may you Rest In Peace.
