Robert Marois Obituary

Marois, Dr. Robert L. COHOES Robert Leo Marois, Ph.D., 86 of Cohoes, entered into ternal rest at home on November 6, 2021, after a brief illness. Robert was born in Troy on April 27, 1935. He was the son of Helen G. (Murray) and Leo J. Marois and was the stepson of E. Grant Golding of Green Island, where he grew up and attended St. Joseph's elementary school. He was the brother of Edward F. Marois who passed away in April. He was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Stronski) Marois whom he cherished for 56 years of marriage until she passed in 2017. He missed her every day. He is survived by their children, Judith Lee (Richard) Barrett, Robert Paul Marois, Janet Neysa Smith, and Joli Ellen McKay, all of Cohoes, as well as eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Bob was a 1952 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy, after which he worked as a mechanical draughtsman at General Electric in Schenectady. Later, he served in the U.S. Navy as a cryptologist on Guam and Okinawa and was a proud member of the U.S. Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association. After the Navy, he attended Siena College, graduating cum laud in 1964, and Albany Medical College where he earned a Ph.D. in pharmacology. The balance of his working life was spent teaching pharmacology to undergraduate students at the Albany College of Pharmacy. Through his affiliation with the Pharmacy College, he was chosen to provide clinical support at the 1980 U.S. Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid. Bob and Trude loved to travel together. They toured both Germany and Ireland twice and enjoyed train travel in the United States and Canada. They traveled on the Mississippi steamboats from New Orleans to Minneapolis, Minn. In earlier years, Bob played golf and, as a young man, baseball. His hobbies included model trains and rooting for the New York Giants. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. However, his greatest passion was spending time with his Trude. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Holy Trinity Church in Cohoes on Friday, November 12, at 10 a.m. Friends and family may call on Thursday, November l l, from 4-7 p.m. at Marra Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
